In college, I was given quite a few lectures on consent, but one thing that I highly disagreed with is "enthusiastic consent", and even more so what's on this website

Consent is a whole body experience. It is not just a verbal “yes” or “no” – it involves paying attention to your partner as a person and checking in with physical and emotional cues as well.

So, basically asking someone yes or no doesn't even work. You have to do that and somehow judge their own emotional cues and physical cues (which are near impossible to know in a representable way). "Paying attention to your partner as a person". How is having sex and asking them not paying attention to them as a person?

we believe that positive sexuality begins with enthusiastic consent. This means being as excited and into someone else’s enjoyment as we are excited and into our own enjoyment. Only yes means yes – and yes should come from an engaged and enthusiastic partner.

Not all people are excited 100% of the time for sex. We are nervous. We are not the most confident with our bodies. We might be curious about sex instead of excited, or looking for sex to make us excited. You also can't tell if someone is truly excited or enthusiastic, as this is highly subjective and varies individually.

Consent isn’t a question. It’s a state. If, instead of lovers, the two of you were synchronized swimmers, consent would be the water.

The very proclamation that "consent isn't a question" is purely to obscure the very state of having consent. If your trying to define something in such a manner that it cannot be just asked, your trying to make it much harder to attain.

And if you want to have sex, you have to be continually in a state of enthusiastic consent with your partner.

Now it's a continuous state of enthusiastic consent. Again, not all people become enthusiastic about sex. They might want to do it, but be shy/insecure/body issues/curious etc. Sex has ups and downs, sometimes you get less into it and want to change positions or spice it up again. That's what sex is. It's rarely if ever pornstar sex.

Tl;dr: The idea of enthusiastic consent is intended to make consent harder to achieve, by adding in unmeasurable quantifiers such as "state of body", "attention to them as a person", and "excitement".
