Only if he thought that being friends with the hot woman would get him laid with other woman, through preselection or her friends or whatever.

However, in a case where she cock-blocks him, not being friendzoned is preferable - he wouldn't want to associate with her in any way. This was originally part of the definition of the friendzone - she was a girl who was not sexually interested in you, but was when you were about to get with other woman. She wanted to keep you as her sexual eunuch.

A caveat to the first point is that it also matters if what she gets out of him outweighs what he gets out of her. If she uses him as her "crying shoulder" or errand boy because she knows he has feelings for her, it would obviously be better to not be her friend.

But the premise is very mistaken. Men would rather have sex with an average woman than not have sex at all.

I'll give you that men want to hang out with hot women. But they only want to hang with hot women if there's a chance for sex. He's not going to give up sex with an average woman for a hot woman who has already friendzoned him. Now, he might for a time try to get with the hot woman if she has not already friendzoned him; but once he's friendzoned, it's game over.

So no, he isn't going to hang out with a hot woman just to use her for social proof and just to be "associated" with her. He might do that only if he thinks he can use her to try to sleep with some of her less hot friends, but that's not going to work most of the time either. Her less hot friends won't want to fuck a guy their hotter friend rejected because that's concrete proof that they're less hot than their friend.

Because even if we assume that men don't want to be with an average woman, this is simply a nobrainer for the reason that being friendzoned sucks big time. And even if we assume that you're not talking about the priorities of the man, but the situation in which he'll most likely end up, it's still wrong because I've seen enough guys being friendzoned by rather unremarkable women.

Apart from that hot women are more likely to suck as friends. Not only is it harder to cope with the fact that you'll never get access to the goodies, they also tend to be less interesting and likable.
