Fine, I'll bite.

I think men and women are more similar than different, but conditioned from birth into gender roles. We have relatively detailed research showing everything from the different treatment of male infants to female infants (people are way rougher with the former, and way more social training focused with the latter) through to social differences in how identical behaviours in adults of each perceived sex are treated (assertive behaviour in women is treated with considerabley less tolerance and more over accusations of crazy/violent than men).

Gender expectations, as it stands, put men primarily in harms way of each other. Although their murder/incarceration rates are appalling, and society provides all sorts of kick-them-when-they're-down extra measures- on the other hand, women are expected to stay fairly close to the docile and domestic box- they are more likely to be paid less (among many things because stereotypical female labour is assigned less monetary value) or doing unpaid labour like family care.

One of the fundamental problems in trying to put the genders into opposition with each other is that it's trying to put your left hand into opposition with your right foot. Resolving a lot of the shit men deal with as a group would help women and the other way around. Unfortunately because gender is only one facet of identity, sorting this mess out is further hampered by the stuff we refer to as "intersectionality". For example as a pale, educated native English speaker in Canada my life is so much preposterously better than a low caste brick making slave in the Indian subcontinent, making this purely a gender thing is focusing on a teeny part of the problem.

And the problem incidentally, is trying to reduce human misery.

Men have no unfair disadvantages. They're privileged just to be males. Women are routine victims of violence and sexual assault to an alarming degree. Also objectification and shit. Basically women are the primary victims of war.

I really think that although we face different problems, things are stacked pretty evenly at this point. I don't think the world is a shittier place for women than it is for men or vice versa. Women often get men with personal boundary issues not taking no for an answer, while men often go through life receiving NO attention or validation from females unless they are the first to start the pursuit.

It's exactly what bothers me about feminism. All problems with being a male must necessarily wrap back around to the female oppression and objectification narrative in order to be discussed or taken seriously. Men are automatically arrested in DV cases even if he never laid a hand on her but she threw him down the stairs and broke his nose? Well duh, that's because in this sexist society women are seen as weaker and inferior! We need to start supporting women as strong and empowered and then maybe they'll start facing consequences. Yet I have seen exactly zero campaigns from feminists trying to overturn laws that require men to be considered the automatic aggressors.

Why the emphasis on western society, OP? A middle class white westerner is at the top of the heap, while we might be annoyed about "girls get onto nightclubs for free because pussy" or "boys never have to wash the dishes", displaced people are being killed by the west's greed for resources.

There are so many things to take into consideration that I don't think it can be determined really, both men and women are oppressed and sort of pushed into the direction of gender stereotypes in various ways.

Men get told to "get a real job" "support a family" "be a man" etc..

Women are told to "look pretty" "find a good husband" "don't be a whore" etc..

If you look at it all holistically I'd say it's near even and that we all have a good serving size of bullshit to deal with from other people on a daily basis. It's best to just learn your own personal core beliefs and muster up the courage to say "NO. FUCK YOU." To people who feel like they have some authority in your personal life.

I'm going to respond to "unequal advantages" rather than "unfair advantages", because the second is to subjective whether it's "fair" or not.

1. On nearly every level of society, women's safety is taken much more seriously than men's. Feminists complain about rape and domestic abuse - those are the ONLY two areas where women have it worse, and that doesn't count that domestic abuse is questionable (a man can't really call the cops unless things get really really bad), and doesn't really count men in prison.

Men are 3 times more likely to be murdered than women. They're multiple times more likely to successfully commit suicide, to end up homeless, to take dangerous jobs, to be arrested, to get a longer prison sentence for the same crime.

It's deeply ingrained in society that men are expected to deal with violence themselves and women are expected to be protected from it. Just imagine for a second that you're in a bar, and you see a man come up and punch a woman. And I tell you that that guy is then jumped and beat the crap out of by every other guy there. Are you surprised? No, it sounds like a probable story. (And it's exactly what happened with Snooki from Jersey Shore).

Now I tell you that a woman in a bar came up to a man, punched him, and half the bar started beating the crap out of the woman. You'd go "That doesn't sound very believable...".

Society-wide, women's safety and staying alive is much more valuable than men's.

2. Women's emotions are taken as more valid than men's.

Men are expected to control their emotions.

Women are expected to think with their emotions, and if that gets out of hand sometimes - well, it happens.

In dating it's even worse. I know, because I'm a fairly happy emotional guy. A woman who acts like I do is druelled over by the guys (if she's remotely physically attractive). I'm just sort of seen as but-to-hang-out-with-once-she-has-a-boyfriend. That doesn't mean I don't date - it means when I do date, I have to tone that side way, way down.

3. There's a complain that women are "objectified" based on their body. Damn, I wish I was objectified based on my body. Do you have any idea how stressful it is to be constantly judged based on your personality and actions? If what I needed to do in order to get girls to sleep with me was just having amazing abs - that would be a HUGE relief. Girls often view guys in the way that everyone views tv character - "how could they do something that stupid! clearly their was a better thing you could have done! this is so stupid!". They don't seem to realize that you got good at what you do by first trying things out and not doing the ideal thing a lot.

Seems like a loaded question but from what I've seen female to male transexuals (or just those posing as men for an experiment) seem to have a lot more negative things to say than male to female transexuals.
