I've never felt that way. I'm not a prize to be won or got by someone, I'm a human being. I think both partners have to value and appreciate each other.

Because lots of men chase them, although for some women it is just for sex. In countries where casual sex is not popular the “I’m a prize” mentality does not seem as widespread.

Depends on the woman. And being "the prize" is, in reality, just a cross section of behaviors that make it more difficult for men to get sex. The motives behind those behaviors vary from woman to woman.

For example, I won't date a guy who doesn't play TTRPG. Men have called me unreasonable for that limit, but there are multiple reasons why it's there. It's my primary hobby, first of all, and any dude who can't deal with me spending anywhere from 4-8 hours on it a week is out.

Then what about jealous/insecure guys? I'm spending at least one night a week in a house full of men he doesn't know. That's not going to work either.

Men who think geeky shit is unfeminine? Out of the running.

Now, none of those things make me "the prize." But to a guy who doesn't fit the criteria I have in mind, it will often be interpreted as ego, bitchiness, rigidity, whatever. Specifically BECAUSE I won't "give him a chance" when I already know it won't work.

Are there women out there who have arbitrary limits and specifications? Absolutely! But every time I hear a guy say "she's so picky" I tack on the silent addendum, "because she won't fuck me in particular."

Women do feel they are the prize.

Think about when guys ask for dates; and it goes likes this almost ALL THE TIME, that guys do the asking. Women on here believe "the one who does the asking should pay for the date" putting the man below her.

Also, women get the power to allow x/commitment MOST of the time; don't kid yourselves. That alone would easily warp her mind in thinking she is the prize.

Men that tend to think of women like that, in my experience, are subtle sexists. As in, they think that they treat women equally...but they just treat women better and if I do something that's not typically women then that still turns into a problem.

Women SHOULD think they are the prize, but not enough of them do and settle for substandard men and substandard relationships. Men do this too, take what they can get and accept a crappy relationship instead of holding out for better. It’s a human failing, our need to settle for less rather than face being alone.
