Amy Schumer is sadly the perfect representation of the average western women. It really is sad how Amy Schumer seriously looks and acts like most women in our society today. The best part is how most western women LOVE Amy schumer. They love how she embraces how terrible women have become today. All her jokes are about how shes a slut and her being a total degenerate. All of these western women eat it all up because they find it comforting that their shitty behavior is getting reinforced by someone else.

Amy Schumer is all just an "act"

Ellen Degeneres was interviewed a long while ago about women and comedy ( I think this was back when she was cast in EdTV the film) and she said there was a lot of pressure for her to be the "mean" female comic at the time and most of the roles she was offered were designed for her to be the "mean" female supporting character. She said being hostile and mean was the EASIEST way to do comedy at her level for being a woman and it's not the kind of comedy she wanted to do/nor did she think she could pull it off.

Tom Leykis, whose Leykis 101 really covers some heavy MRA type stuff, tried all other kinds of radio shows before he became an advocate for men's rights. Larry the Cable Guy tried other types of more traditional comedy before he did the fat redneck country good ol' boy kind of angle.

To me, Schumer stands out negatively for two things. 1) She's one of many, like Lena Dunham, where director Judd Apatow has basically pushed them forward because he had the pull to do so, to get them into more fame. Apatow acknowledges openly, his Jewish faith and associating with other Jewish actors in interviews and even in his films. He appears to like his women chubbier and Jewish, not sure what to say other than at least he's consistent. 2) She's a reflection, what others have said before, of how female strength is really being pushed forward as aggressive, loud, crude and cruel. The strongest females I've ever known were reserved, their strength came from good self esteem, non judgement and accepting themselves and others for who and what they were given the time and place (it's rare as fuck, but there are a small handful of women in the world who seem to have functional healthy self esteem who are likely a little bit older (not this recent generation of headaches) and came from a stable household with good parents and a strong father figure)

The irony is, a lot of women out there think that this ball busting, man hating, slut whore, cussing, aggressive, anger ball, hateful and cruel stance is setting them apart. Except so many women buy into this and try to be this way. Who are we kidding, most women want to be unique and stand out from other women? You know how to stand out as a woman today? Have good self esteem. Know how to cook. Don't act like a total whore. Follow the Golden Rule. Don't complain every other minute of the day. Be elegant.

Amy Schumer is exactly what others have said in other threads - Most women aren't authentic, they are just sheep following what they think will get them the most social status.

Clearly I don't associate Schumer with a Barbie doll, but Hollywood will do whatever they like.

That being said, if the goal of this movie is to portray being overweight as "normal" or "healthy" well, that's the biggest bullshit I will hear to date and there is where the issue lies.

I do not believe Schumer will play the "real" Barbie doll, but some reject, which at the end is accepted and cheered at, regardless of her figure.

We shouldn't make young people think being chubby is the end of the world, but we also shouldn't make them accept it as the norm and that they should feel content with being overweight.

I actually kinda like Amy Schumer. I see what she is doing with her stand up (it's a character), her show is clever, and Trainwreck was really funny. I find her attractive too (I like thick women).

But her playing Barbie makes no sense. I mean there's Kristen Bell, Ashley Benson, Brie Larson, etc, etc who actually could do it.

I suppose if she loses weight it could work. She lost some for Trainwreck.

It's funny how philosophers have been spending centuries talking about beauty and aesthetics and you think you can just have the final say in this, talk about entitlement.

Also, evolutionary? Well, in terms of pure physical genetic evolution, overweight women are naturally selected for, they are likely to be more fertile, provide better nourishment for their offspring, and survive famine and such.

On the other hand there is another form of evolution, memetic evolution. And that is much more complicated and more culture specific, for example there is this, in these cultures, the fatter the woman, the more attractive she is considered. You also find similar tendencies in middle eastern cultures where full bodied women were (and are widely still) considered much more attractive than skinny women. Look at any of the ancient Greek and Roman statues or the renaissance painting that depicted beauty (e.g. statues and paintings of Venus, the goddess of beauty), does any of these seem skinny?

Also, going off of weight and generally into cultural differences just to prove a point, many African and east Asian cultures don't (or didn't, until westernisation) care that much for breasts. Also In China until very recently "foot binding" was very common, Lotus feet were considered very beautiful, I'm sure most of the people here would consider that disgusting, proving that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

Staying with the analogy of the market, markets work on supply and demand, if they can change the demand, well in that case they are proving you wrong. If they can change how western males percieve beauty within a generation or two, then once again that is evidence that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because if it's just evolutionarily hard wired into males, then they won't be able to change it and you got nothing to worry about.

"Large" and "small" are rellative, as are all measurements. There is no absolute large or absolute small, there is larger and smaller. In 1905 a car with a top speed of 75km/h woul have been very fast, now that same car woul be considered slow. Another example is tests, if too many people pass they raise the passing score so less people pass, in too few people pass they lower it, many test hav given up passing scores altogether and work on the basis of percntile. So it's only normal that clothes manufacturers do the same, find the distribution of people, call the median medium, and go from there, what's so wrong with that?

In the end, what are you so angry about? They just cast a female role to a female actress, and I for one happen to find her attractive, what's the big deal??
