For many (heterosexual) men sex is the vehicle for their own validation as a human being and Man itself. Being desirable to women reaffirms that you are worthy of existence itself. You exist in a state that is what your society wants, what your friends want, and what your own biology is screaming at you to want. It's far more than just releasing sexual tension through an orgasm. Men lack emotional intimacy with other people almost as a rule. Yes men have intimate male friendships but it does not satisfy the very specific want/need to have one with a woman. Emotional intimacy can be had with friends, siblings, pets, etc.. but you can only have sexual intimacy (the combined physical and emotional intimacy male psychology craves) with a woman. Men are not wired for social cohesiveness in the way women are, thus the focus always leads them to women for relief.

Now you may say "Sex is not a need" and i'm not going to beat that dead horse for long. Correct, you will not die as a biological organism if you fail to have sex. But it's folly to think you're developing properly and growing as an emotional/physical/spiritual being itself by failing to attain it. It's not women's fault men want/need sex in the way they do, and it's not their responsibility to do anything about it. Men have found alternative avenues for meaning since the beginning of time that remove women from the equation entirely. Increasing polarization between the sexes will allow this to happen with greater frequency as we are seeing develop now. I'd much rather live in a world where both sexes desires for each other are met equitably than one we have now that sees a tiny minority of people blissfully happy with their lives and the rest abjectly miserable and blaming themselves and everyone else for it with no hope in sight of it changing.

I don't think this is a gendered issue.

Masturbation does satisfy me, if I'm horny I jerk off then go about my day, I don't need to have sex. But comparatively speaking masturbation isn't the same as sex especially if you enjoy the sex you have, there's intimacy and pleasure that you just don't get from masturbation.

There are definitely women that would much rather have sex with their partners than masturbate even if it fulfils the same goal of relief, that seems to be a common problem when looking at some of the posts from r/deadbedroom and r/sex, posts that say that for them masturbation isn't enough and that they don't get the same level of satisfaction from it.

Women for some reason, even though their has literally been a sexual revolution, yet their are women who do not think orgasms exist for them.
