...or at the mechanic, or gym, etc, etc. I'm a new homeowner learning to take care of my new place, so I've been spending time at the hardware store as I work on small projects. I YouTube to learn how to do them (because I'm a woman and I don't expect the world to do things for me like men). But I am new and it takes me time to look over the tools/materials offered. I don't want to be rushed, and I don't want extraneous opinions/"help" from random men. But it never fails. They interrupt and mansplain me. I've worked so hard to diminish my pickme ways in dating, but it's so, so easy to capitulate when you're startled by a random man, do the awkward laugh, and suffer through their bullshit until they leave you alone. I want to stop playing along, but I also resent the emotional labor of having to summon up the wherewithal to stop playing along. I'm tired. I know none of this is groundbreaking, just another volume of Hashtag Everyday Sexism, but just needed to get it off my chest. Maybe I just need to get more muscle memory in ignoring and/or calling them out. Still feels scary and exhausting. I just want to weatherstrip my door in peace!
