My current thinking is that RP describes what people behave like on a subconscious level, and what people would behave like without society, but society puts a huge amount of pressure for people to act closer to what BP describes and so in practice, at least on the surface, people act in a BP manner.

In other words the concepts that RP describes (hypergamy, for example) drive a lot of human behavior at a backend level, but BP describes much more accurately what is observed at the frontend level.

And thus, they are both true, but in different ways.

For example hypergamy and relationships - a person is in a good quality relationship. but there might be a hidden almost subconscious idea in his/her head that he/she can do better (RP backend idea), but because the social construct of a relationship is so strong that idea is immediately swept aside and suppressed (BP frontend behavior).

For example, it's a known fact that attractive people are treated better (RP backend idea), but absolutely nobody will admit to doing so personally and people will go to great lengths, in public, to give the impression that they treat everyone the same (BP frontend behavior).

What do you think? I'm not going to flair this as a CMV as I want to get an overall idea on whether people agree or disagree, but I welcome challenge opinions.
