How do you do your nails?

I own and manage a beauty salon and this is my opinion. Acrylics can damage your nails over time because of the strong adhesive used so stay away from acrylics. I recommend getting gel polish because they last 2-4weeks depending on what you do during those weeks. Normal paint color will fade and chip but gel is resistant to this.

But your other choices are basically personal choices like color, shape, etc. If you want my opinion and preferences as a guy who sees and works on a lot of girls that get their nails/hair done then this is what I suggest: French white tips are a classic and goes with pretty much any outfit. If you want you can ask for a French tip with a dark color if your SO prefers it. Light pink is a very natural color but still has that pretty look. Neutral colors go well. The other colors that are darker or bright sends out a pretty bold message. All of these are gel. My store exclusively uses OPI brand gel polish so I recommend that. But really it's up to you to decide as a lot of girls change colors depending on the season, holiday, and weather. Let me know if you have any more questions.

My husband gives not a single crap, which is almost disappointing because I love to do my nails. They make no difference to him, so I usually don't worry about it, but when I dress up I like to make my nails match my outfit because it makes me feel more put together.

I've recently discovered Jamberries, which I like so far. They are a little expensive, so it's good that I only rarely do my nails. They are these little, stretchy sheets that adhere to your nails with heat and pressure. I got some floral print and some polka dot ones that I'm looking forward to using. No drying time, and they last way longer than polish when applied correctly.

I usually wear my nails bare but trimmed and shaped. Sometimes I'll put on a nail strengthening clear polish if I remember. I want to start wearing some actual color on my nails, maybe some simple but elegant designs, but I'm not sure where I want to start. I recently subscribed to /r/redditlaqueristas for inspiration. A lot of the stuff is kind of garish, but there's good material too.

Mine are short because I'm trying to break my nail-biting habit. I usually like my nails to be a little more round. I don't paint them too often, but I keep them as clean as I can.

I'm very into nail polish and I have over 200 of them. I keep my natural nails, and paint them a few times a week. I love wearing dark purples, maroons, and blacks. My SO seems to prefer polishes in the red family. I also have to keep it professional for my office job, so I tend to stick with pinks, reds, and nudes. Those colors seem to work in an office environment.

I save the crazy colors (blues, greens, glitter, etc.). for the weekends. :-)

Seems I'm in the minority here. Short, trimmed (cut, not even filed) and clean. I buff them once a week or so. I paint my toe nails myself in the summer, bare the rest of the time. I spend a fair bit of time gardening and sailing and my very soft nails do not hold up long. They tear instead of chip :(

My SO loves me in feminine garb but does not give a rat's ass about nails beyond clean and not scratching him.

I keep mine natural, fairly short, and just kind of a smooth, roundish shape. My job and the fact that I wear contacts everyday prevents me from wanting to grow them long and polish them!

When I do polish, I usually do a French manicure. I think it looks pretty and natural. Occasionally I'll do bright red, which I love but chips are so noticeable!

My toes I keep polished pretty much all the time, usually a bright pink. My feet aren't that pretty and I think the polish gives them a small boost, lol!

I've recently bought an at home gel nail kit and I have to say, I am very happy with their practicality. Normally if I painted my nails in the morning, if I managed to not fuck them up while they were drying, by the time I did dishes that evening, they would already start to chip.

But with the gel nail polish, so far its been three days of washing dishes, scrubbing counters, peeling, slicing, and soaking... and not a single chip in sight. They are still as glossy as the day I painted them too!

The only down side I see is there is less versatility. Since normal nail polish was ruined after a couple of days I would have repaint often, so I could switch up the color and style often. But I have the feeling I'll be stuck with the manicure I have for a while now.

As for color, I am a big fan of black nails, just because it always matches everything, especially since I wear a lot of black. I'm also a fan of doing a french tip, but with alternative colors. Instead of pink and white, I'll do like blue and white. Or pink and red (which looks really good!).

My husband likes long (real or fake), soft feminine colors ( pinks, mauves, corals) for everyday and sometimes more vibrant for special events.

I have loads of polishes, acrylic kits, gel and UV kits etc. I paint my toes but vary my nails depending on my mood and the season. I ADORE all things nail related.

Mr Strom likes French tips on my fingers and bright reds and pinks on my toes. I do shellac myself on my fingers and plain old polish on my toes. I used to do gel overlay on my nails, but have started supplementing with biotin and my nails are much stronger and longer now.

As for what you wear to work, as long as you don't go to work looking like Robin Sparkles, you should be fine. If you type a lot, it will help to keep you nails shorter than the ends of your fingers. Otherwise your nails will get in the way.

I keep my nails short for practical reason and because I play the guitar and piano. I usually paint my finger nails in pastel colours (my favourite colours are light pink and lavender) and toe nails in brighter colours (e.g. orange and yellow).

In my previous workplace, there are guidelines on hair and working attire but none is mentioned about nails. My ex-coworkers used to flaunt their nail art designs during water cooler chat.

To be honest, I don't have a good impression of people who spend TOO MUCH time on their nails. Surely there are more productive things to do.

Shellac/Gel Polish is literally just a gel overlay. I prefer OPI's Gel Polish line above all else, but I will never put that crap on my toes. My SO just likes my nails to be done and that isn't hard considering I've worked as a nail tech before. I'm not into designs and all that stuff. Just polish.

Edit: I agree about people looking at you differently when you're well kept. I look at every single females hands that I come into contact with lol

I agree that having perfectly polished nails makes a huge difference in over all appearance! The detailed neatness is comforting, it shows that you know how to take care of yourself, and of course subtly shows that you can take care of others, as well. Having polished nails shows that you care, IMHO.

My toes are usually a darker shade of what is on my fingertips. Right now I'm loving these light peony shades. I also use the Sally Hansen nail strengthener and a clear gloss top coat that I refresh a couple of times a week.

My toes get a bright color in the spring/summer and a darker color in the fall/winter. I usually do them myself, but every two months or so, I get them done at a salon. Both my fingers and toes are kept square. I don't put colored polish on my nails, not much point on a farm. My husband loves that I keep my toes painted, but he especially loves when they're dark (he thinks it looks sexy). I think any color is acceptable in the workplace as long as the polish isn't chipping.

Prefer natural nails on my women. Although, as long as they aren't those glue on ones, I really don't care. The acrylics are just super tacky to me. Why would you glue on fake nails haha.

My husband only wants me to have short nails in classic colors.

He makes fun of long nails, nail art and fake nails so I just avoid them altogether and stick with plain red nails with a rounded edge.

My husband likes when I have long nails. BUT I really can't right now because we have a baby, and soon will have another one. When my nails were long I kept scratching her :( So I'm keeping them short until the kiddos are at an age where I don't need to constantly be picking them up.

I can't wait to have longer nails. I actually like the look of acrylics (french tipped ones). So I'll probably get those :)

I always keep mine short with slightly rounded tips and usually unpainted, sometimes with a clear coat on them which my SO finds amusing; he says my nails have texture errors. Sometimes I paint them a solid color. I like the trend of painting your thumbs and ring fingers a different color from the rest, but I don't like them to have lots details because I think it looks cluttered. I like mint green, navy blue, gray, coral, yellow, etc.

I have two questions for you guys:
Are quick dry topcoats bad for your nails? And do these 1, 2 kinds of products actually do anything for you?

I have long, natural nails. I like to do them up in fun, elaborate styles for different occasions! I enjoy spending my time that way, and it is so nice when people notice and ask who I go to, and I get to say I do it myself. My SO thinks it's really cute. :)

I'm currently kinda ratty. I haven't had time or energy to paint em, but I have all the tools with me on this business trip lol.

I keep my fingernails natural and clean, and occasionally I'll wear a clear coat when I'm feeling fancy (ha). I'm pretty finicky about my hands, though, and I make sure that they're pretty despite the lack of polish. I keep my toes painted with summery colors like peaches, pinks, etc.

I'm a dietitian so color on your fingernails is pretty frowned upon in most work settings (hospitals, cafeterias, etc), but having some color on my toes really does make me feel... prettier, I guess? Even when I'm wearing closed-toe shoes.

My So likes "classic" color on my nails (pinks, reds or plain). I'm an engineering student so I like to keep my nails short during class times and grow them out a little on vacation.

I mostly keep them filed and with a layer of vitamin polish (sheer pink) but whenever I get the time I manicure them at home in shades of red. As soon as they chip, I'll wear them nude until I have time for a new mani/pedi. I also have some more fun colors he likes but aren't his favorites. I save those for girl night (purple and orange). My toes usually match my nails unless it's too cold to wait for polish to dry on toes

I spend winter with filed yet polish-less toes

i like rounded and trimmed nails, usually natural but sometimes i will put polish on. i'm not the greatest at doing a proper manicure so i go to a salon for that. (in fact, i just got one yesterday) i tend to stick to jewel tones and prefer shades of blue, purple, green etc. yellow is fun too. pastels can be nice but i don't care for french manicures usually. i tend to associate them with older women lol.

right now my nails are a very pretty shade of violet. i have flowers drawn on two of my nails and a bit of glitter on the tips. my bf likes my polish choices a lot. :) i would like to try gel polish and mayybe get acrylics just once to see what it feels like although i can't picture myself making a habit of it.

i do feel more put together and elegant after getting a manicure and/or pedicure.
