Hey, here's an idea... since Bond is a Double-O Agent, why not simply have a female Double-O Agent who doesn't replace the character Bond? You know, same universe, report to M, get equipment from Q, all of that rot.

A "female Bond" would basically be a parasitic enterprise, as if an original female character wouldn't cut the mustard.

Part of the James Bond allure, for those who like this stuff, is that he is a hit with the ladies without making any effort. This, rather large, factor of his image will not work in reverse. Yes, there's no reason why 007 can't be female for one film.

There's also no reason why someone couldn't, say, come up with an entirely original female spy character, rather than riding on the coattails of a successful male character, but...if producers don't think female characters will draw enough of an audience, and need a male character's success just to get a hit, I suppose Bond should give one to the ladies, who clearly can't do it themselves.

They're all just Lisa Simpson irl. They're just saying stuff for a reaction, to "freak people out", not because they actually want it or think it would be a good movie or story.

Again though, the idea is to take an existing property and subvert it rather than create, because any failure can be blamed on sexism and they don't have to have their ideas stand on their own legs.

The thing that annoys me most is that they think we're offended with the gender bent character or women in films, the assumption that we'd object as if we are like some stuffy mustachioed men with brandy and cigars who won't stand for it. I don't really care, I'm not offended, is just rather they made their own stories with characters that stand on their own merits (films, games, comics etc) instead of relying on all this false hysteria and buzz

I liked the idea that "James Bond" was a codename, and that they'd off the older "James Bond" as soon as he became counter productive, and the movie idea with Sean Connrey as the enemy... the old James Bond who caught wind of the idea.

Can you imagine a young, female, womanizing and heavily drinking James Bond, still juiced from her recent successes in the agency confronting her older predecessor, then having to go back to confront her agency because he was right?

Can you imagine her rich voice saying "My name is Bond. James bond". Because her codename would still be a male name, even though she was female? People would go crazy trying to analze the subtext XD
