FOLLOW UP

I've just completed the course (didn't take more than 20-30 minutes) and to its credit, it is fairly gender neutral. I've taken some screenshots of the highlights for your viewing pleasure, and put them in an album. Note, I didn't screenshot everything, but it was more due to my mental slipping, rather than deliberate omission.

I got this email this morning. I haven't yet accessed the course to determine if it is gender-neutral, or if it is discriminatory against men, but I figured I'd make some noise and let this known.

My college tends to be pretty gender neutral when it comes to things, but I'm still nervous that this will just be another man-bashing attempt that universities are prone to.

Some of that is pretty vague..Like power the male is most likly going to be physically stronger..Isn't strength power? What about intelligence? if your in a study group and the more intelligent person uses their skill to impress is that power? The no sex after imbuing alcohol is nearly pointless.Telling young people not to drink and fuck is about as useful as telling them not to drink or fuck..Their going to do it no matter what their told.

The question I have is did every single person have to take this. Are both genders required? If so then I see no problem with this. Colleges are under tremendous pressure and scrutiny in terms of sexual assault. You know administrators are the new police after all.

OP I hope you see this as an opportunity that it can be. Perhaps you can positively impact future surveys and make sure men are represented in the survey. It is a great opportunity to work with administration.

My college required something on drugs, alcohol, and sexual violence last semester or they said they'd place a hold on your account (holds prevent class registration). I could have gotten solid 100s on the entire thing but I refused to answer that one-in-five was a valid statistic. I also waited until I had like two days left to do it. The next time I had her class, my business law professor went on a rant about how she thinks it's full of invasions of privacy and we shouldn't have to do it and somebody needs to take it to the administration and argue against it. I kinda wished then that I hadn't done it so I could have brought up just how screwed up it is.

I had to do something similar for sexual harassment and rape awareness. Total bullshit, a waste of my time. Coincided with a "take back the night" march. All I could think was that this must have no effect on any normal male who doesn't want to go out and hurt anyone. Then I tried to picture the mindset of the criminal: "Gee, I was really going to go out and rape some women tonight. I had it all planned out because that's what I do to support mah patriarchy, but now that I've viewed this wonderfully inspirational material on how to be a good human being and I've seen this incredibly courageous display of female empowerment marching through the campus grounds, I guess I'll go watch some netflix instead. I wonder if there's any romcoms on..."

I wonder if this is some way of the university wiggling their way out of future litigation. They can say that they require all the students to participate and the student body should know better not to engage in domestic violence. A way of removing any responsibility of the university and it's staff to further prevent DV.
