15 months since mine left the family.

I've been dating a pretty awesome lady for the last seven months.

As kick ass as she is, as compatible as we seem to be, I cannot see getting married again.

Also, a question - how are you paying child support having split custody 50-50? Mind-boggling. I have same situation, but not paying a dime, since half the time the kid is with me. Your ex wife might as well be paying you.

BTW, my 4th year after divorce and getting out of an unfavourable relationship (almost a year-long), so back to square one.

Yeah, I thought my girlfriend was AMAZING and don’t get me wrong she was pretty great. As it turns out, she wasn’t AMAZING, she was just basically a normal, caring human being - something I hadn’t had in my life for 15 years.

Congrats. Took me 3.5 years to find an amazing woman I want to marry. Stats show 75% of us will be remarried within 5 years. I remember laughing at that the first year after divorce thinking no way.

I’m six months out and I wish I could be where you are. I’m broke, sad and lonely. My wife left because my money ran out when my business started to fail. 16 years of what you thought was at the very least a good friendship. I could care less about her but being broke and not having money to do things with your 2 little girls is hard. I watch her with extra money take the girls out and go to dinner and go shopping and when they come here I cook and try and watch movies with them. I’m starting to realize they are wanting to stay with their mother more often. I’m getting to the point where I’m about to give up. I have about 2 more months before I’m probably going to lose my house of the last 20 years because I’m using all my money on their catholic school and money to their mother. I sit now 4 to 5 days by myself thinking about how great life was just a year ago.

Thank you for this. And to all the others who share their stories. I'm going through it right now and I'm going on 5 months of the divorce process and still living with the STBXW. On top of all that I suspect she is cheating (even with us in the process of splitting up it still sucks). It's good to hear that it will get better though. Currently fighting for 50/50 but she wants primary custody for no other reason than "control". Thank you for sharing this, it definitely helps.

Women are all over the place and to be honest, they are all amazing in the beginning, it's insidious by nature and today's modern times. Have your priorities, boundaries and if you can, do not get entangled in anything legal that would eventually take away assets that belong to you and your kids. It's always been about resource extraction. Life has given you a second chance, make the best of it for you and your kids. By all means continue to date and have a great time, but always protect yourself.

For what it’s worth. I’m very happy for you, but it must be said that you should prioritize healing and moving on alone. If I were you, I’d go the next 2 years learning how to be happy and self sustaining ALONE! You are falling into the trap of falling into the Bs of another woman, putting her on a pedestal and thinking that she’s perfect. Then using her as an emotional anchor, this type of behavior leads to a situation like the one you are in, some years later. Focus on yourself, your only true emotional anchor is yourself!

I hope it will only be one year, but I'm pretty sure this will stretch further for me. Good for you to have held your head high and pulled through. I've had big lows, but it's these sort of messages and the few friends I have left that keep me going, so thanks for sharing and power on.
