Anyone else seem to notice that men get looked down upon when they are the ones who initially want to divorce their wives? As prior posts, I’m in a toxic marriage. To say my wife is fully to blame would be a lie, as I’ve just fallen out of love and not been a good husband as well. Sure, she’s been crazy, but I just don’t jive with her and I think that’s helped fuel her bad attitude over the years.

With all that said, I’ve been the one really wanting to file for divorce and try to talk with her about a separation. She’s not been taking it well, and pulling the whole I’m a “narcissist” card and saying I’m abandoning my family. Complete BS, as I will fight like hell to have shared custody of my kid. Her family is religious, as is my family and they are pinning me as this bad guy for wanting to leave. Years of her going bat shit crazy and attacking me, not helping me with bills, chores or other adult duties, extreme jealousy and many other things — I’ve finally decided I want a divorce. She’s been trying to guilt me into staying, and tries to claim all marriages are like this, and men should be providers and stay no matter what. She even told me I shattered her dreams of being a stay at home mom. Psh, she did that for 5 years and sucked me dry. Well if this is marriage, it ain’t for me.

I just noticed from the r/divorce thread when women post they aren’t in love anymore with their husband and want to leave and take the kids, they get praise and apathy. When men post something similar they get vilified. Also most articles online seem to be tailored to women who want to divorce their husband. You almost have to specifically put in a Google search if you want more research about men wanting to file. I’m just tired of hearing shit like, “man you need to stay for the kids”. I did that for years, and I’m afraid it’s showing my daughter that a toxic marriage is okay, when it’s in fact not. As cheesy as it sounds, the knows what the heart wants.. Just seems that society finds it odd when a man wants out of a marriage. Idk, just a late night rant and what I’ve noticed.
