We have two kids both of them are < 18 y/o. I am working FT and she is a homemaker. Married for more than a decade. We have a little savings, a paid car, and small retirement savings. I am on a breaking point now! I know she will never change (she is a control freak from A to Z and dependent in a lot of things and ways, manipulator, guilt tripper, possibly mental health issues) but I still gave her a chance but to no avail. I have some issues too (she complains about the household chores but I am trying to help but she feels it is not enough) I’ve been to a Social worker/counselor a few times and she always decline we go to a counselor or shrink. I always tell her that we go on separate ways but she refuses because of the kids (I know she does not need to agree as we live in a no fault divorce state). My wife and I have not formally sat down and discuss about the divorce. I do not want to empty our savings due to lawyers fee. Do I really need a lawyer? Any advice about the challenges of divorce in general will be welcomed. (Alimony, child support) I will appreciate any comments, advise, wisdom, etc.
