I am tired of watching female musicians turn to hypersexualized lyrics to appeal to a larger audience and pander to the male gaze under the guise of female empowerment. It is disturbing and it is very disappointing. Recently one of my favorite musicians began transitioning from music that wasn't male-centered to music that is all about sex. While her previous songs weren't ALL about empowering young women (a lot of the content had lines about beefing with men and women) there were only 1 or 2 songs on the album with 2 or 3 lyrics about sex. Name ten mainstream songs on the billboard hot 100 right now performed by women that don't contain lyrics about sex or romance. What is really crazy is the media trying to sell this idea that they are making "feminist" music to women and young girls. When the reality is it's just about having sex (but make it dominatrix) ALL the time. Bring it to the attention of third-wave feminists on ANY platform and they will scream "Well no one complains when men . . .".

  1. Simply put, men are disgusting.
  2. YES, a smaller number of people complain about men doing it but (if my memory serves me correctly) there are also a ton of songs written and performed by men that aren't strictly about having sex.
  3. Men have literally joked about women giving them sex and thinking "That'll show him" by making the phrase "still hit tho" popular. Men are straight-up letting women know that it doesn't matter if she thinks she is dominating them sexually because they still got what they wanted. Ladies, what does it take for you to realize that they are making a mockery out of you?
  4. Men are writing some of the lyrics for these women to perform (I'm pointing at you Lil Yachty) for other women (read men) and the men are profiting from that.
  5. Overall men are directing women to do this and they are profiting financially from women doing this in the industry. Cardi B's record label touches more money than Cardi B will ever see in her lifetime. Pee (a rap label's exec) OWNS the City Girls and they will be indebted to him until their hair turns gray.
  6. To top it ALL of these women try to convince their audience they are tricking their men all while being degraded by their actual partners and being under the hands of men in the industry.

I am tired.

ETA: That's it. I'm gonna say it. Meg and Cardi are performative bisexuals. There. Meg mentioned she was bi then all of a sudden she is bumping cooters with Cardi? Yeah aight. I FIRMLY believe it is for shock factor and the male gaze. If I said this on Twitter I would have to delete my account.
