Fuck that! I’ll never change my last name. It’s the same last name as my son for one, but it’s also really cute with my first name. I also like that it’s a common enough last name that I can’t easily be found by Googling.

It’s a control exercise, he’s testing her boundaries and if she can be manipulated with an insane illogical suggestion. The fact she even questioned herself is already a sign he’s already in her head and she’s questioning herself. He wants her to shed her identity for HIM. I told my partner I wouldn’t change my last name because of the hassle involved and he told me how important it was to him for us to share the same last name. We’ve agreed to combine our last names into a brand new last name so that we each take on the burden of the change. That’s high value behavior. This? Is the lowest of the low.

It's HER last name, not her deceased husband's. Sick of people thinking that if a woman takes her husband's last name it still isn't hers. Btw I don't support taking a mans last name, but if you do you own it just as much as him.

It's now her professional name. He should have no say in that. Frankly, it's none of his business and him having a problem with it, is a huge red flag. I'd be wary of keeping in in my life.

I separated just before I got my degree after 20 years of marriage. There was NO WAY I was going to have my husbands name on my degree after the roadblocks he put in place that caused our separation. I fought hard to get my degree in my maiden name considering we weren't divorced yet and have now changed my name since. The only people I cared about were my kids and in discussion, their response was - ''No matter what your last name is, you are still our mum". It hasn't impacted them at all. I would never change my name for a man again. I know young women who are keeping their name in marriage and even having that name for their children they have with their husband. The tides are turning.

Guys you need to understand she and her kids aren't marked with his last name and thus, not his belonging :(. Don't you have compassion? They are still marked with the label of another man. What is he supposed to say when his friends ask? What is he supposed to say when his mother asks:(? They weren't going to marry anyway but it's DISRESPECTFUL. No-one cares but it's important to HIM, because they are now HIS possession and must be marked as such. Don't you get it :(... So disrespectful of her.

I didn't realize how big of a deal society made the whole last name thing until I got divorced and loads of people asked if I'd change my name back. Um no? I'm professionally known by my current name and I like it! Plus I'm not a fan of my LV father and never liked having his name. It's really no one else's business at all. People acted like it meant I was still in love with with my ex or something for keeping it which is especially crazy because I'm the one who left him. At the end of the day- it's always your choice to do whatever you want with your own name!

I kept my married name after divorce because of professional reasons. It would be too difficult and pointless trying to deal with it. I wish I hadn't changed it to begin with just because I got married.

If I ever do re marry, whomever the guy is will just have to accept the fact I'm not changing my name. Or he can go.
