So true! You can be literally the most stunning woman on the planet and there will be still some men who will go on and say "Yeah, you're kind of pretty, but the distance between your eyes is 1 mm too wide" or some other bullshit, while him being the very definition of the "not much to look at" phrase. Men go out of their way to zoom on an attractive female's face and body parts to desperately seach for some "flaws" and pretend that because of this presumed flaws she is at the same level looks-wise as them. They do this almost all the time. Interestingly, you can almost never see ugly/plain women critisising handsome men for their tiny imprerfections. It's almost as if women can actually appreciate the sight of a good-looking person instead of nitpicking every non-ideal trait on him and tearing him apart for it. Not gonna lie, both genders can be superficial, but men's audacity knows no boundaries. They'll shit on any female who isn't their favorite pornstar or IG model.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t give the slightest attention to a male unless he’s basically worshipful of my physical appearance lol. I’m hot and I know it, sure I’m not a model, but I’m attractive and work hard to stay fit. So literally anything but “goddamn, you’re stunning and I’d be thrilled to take you out” gets 0 attention. As a result I’ve never been negged in a relationship or even a casual hook up situation... because I only go with men who feel LUCKY to have my attention. Any weird games while in the initial texting phase, hot and cold type BS, and I stop engaging immediately. This is what I hate about that stupid OkCupid study everyone on Reddit sites where most women are well rated in attractiveness but 80% of men are rated as below average. They use this to prove that women are more shallow. Uh, no. Have you seen the average woman versus the average man? She is much more attractive because she properly grooms herself, she has a skin care routine, she has makeup on, her hair is styled, her nails manicured, her outfit is stylish, she looks good.
The average man has showered and applied deodorant (if we're lucky), but he hasn't styled his hair, hasn't done anything to his skin, hasn't put a second of thought into his effort. The average woman puts in much more effort to look good than the average man does. And worse, the average woman is expected to look better because ALL women are expected to wear makeup, nice clothes, etc. while men simply are not expected to put any effort into their appearance. They're not even expected to be in shape, with the "dad bod" trend. But women better be a size 2 with a big booty.

Exactly. My brother once weighed over 400lbs, and he used to criticise women who were overweight or obese all the time. But then he got upset when a woman refused to date him because of his size. This woman was like supermodel slim. The thing that gets me about this situation and male standards is that men are allowed to have their standards. I just watched a video yesterday about this woman. She's absolutely gorgeous. This is true. However, this doesn’t carry over to the mainstream. This post goes beyond HVW - it’s a perfect example of cultural misogyny that doesn’t just affect women. It also affects young girls. As a young girl, it’s much easier said than done to just ignore beauty standards and be confident. Growing up, I was bullied for having (normal-sized) lips. Boys used to make nasty comments about my large chest. This woman isn’t even saying that men can’t have an opinion on what THEY find attractive - she’s saying that mediocre men shouldn’t be able to shape the rest of society’s opinion about what is attractive. Men’s opinions don’t just affect as women, which is they need to be challenged.

I understand what you're saying and I agree, but the original post was about unattractive men and their opinions about women's beauty and that's what my comment is responding to, and now you've brought up beauty standards and bullying affecting young girls, which is a different though related thing. I agree that it's ridiculous for trash men to air their opinions about women's attractiveness, but one group of men is not solely responsible for making and enforcing the beauty standards we all deal with throughout our lives. It's impossible to escape these standards and men are never going to stop sharing their opinions so I'm saying that women need to think about what we can control here, which is how much power we actually let these things have within us and how honest we are with ourselves about them.

The other day, I stumbled onto one of those subs full of incels who are obsessed with hating women for daring to gasp age like any other living being. I saw them talk about how Chrissy Teigen is and was a butterface, even in a swimsuit photo from when she was like 20 (and radiant).

Once knew a guy at work that was very overweight- I’m talking massive belly, struggles to breathe normally when still, etc. He was funny, but not really doing himself any favors in the looks department. He was struggling to find a steady girlfriend, so he went on a date with a girl he met on tinder. I saw pics prior and she was really pretty, and I asked how it went. “She was nice, but her hips were too big. It grossed me out.”
I gave him the deadest look and said “joe.... you are not one to judge someone so harshly on their body type.” He replied “I have standards!!” and proceeded to get upset with me for calling him out. Needless to say, from then on I couldn’t really enjoy even being work mates with him. Years later and he’s engaged to a TOTAL Pick Me who is sadly so insecure that she thinks he’s the best she’ll ever get. It’s really sad.
Man, I’m glad I don’t have to hear his idiotic shit anymore. Why the fuck is it the grossest dudes have these disgustingly unrealistic standards?!

I’ve said all my life that the difference between men and women is that women always know what “shelf” they’re on (in terms of attractiveness). For example, I’m middle shelf and that’s just the way it is..
