I think a lot of people come to FDS originally thinking that this is how you will end up with a HVM, but it’s not. The point is to weed out LVM and learn to be alone and happy rather than lonely in the company of a shit boyfriend or husband. If a HVM does come into your life, you are prepared to be loved and to love in a healthy way.

I’ve officially been single for 6 months. Guys, this is the most single I’ve been since like junior year of high school. I’m talking about no flings, no fwb, no “it’s complicated” situations and no boyfriend. As someone who often overlooked small details that would crash the relationship a year or two down the line or stayed too long in a crummy relationships, I’m actually really proud of myself. I got attached too easily, forgave too much or was codependent. Sure, I still have people courting me but for the first time in my life I don’t feel like I have to give them a chance if I’m not feeling it.

Instead, I’ve put a lot of work into turning my life around. I got a better haircut (even though it was expensive), I got myself a new necklace, I negotiated for a higher salary, I’m taking singing lessons and I’m learning to play the piano, I joined an amateur soccer team, I’m taking better care of my girl friends, I’m networking my ass off and I’m going to the gym regularly and am 5 pounds away from my high school weight.

Thank you for keeping my standards high. I’m no longer afraid of being “alone,” rather I now know that this is better than feeling lonely in a relationship. I’m actively trying to keep myself single and happy until I’m 100 percent sure about the next guy and it’s working.
