I was watching Monsters Inc. today with my littles and thought- Sully is a HVM... high value monster 🤣

Once he gets acquainted with Boo, he quickly pivots against societal conditioning/expectations and begins taking good care of her.

He is patient, kind, and sticks to his principles. When he realizes how frightening he can be doing his “job” on the “Scare Floor”, he processes it, is genuinely remorseful, and does everything in his power to correct scaring Boo.

He is loyal and loving to her despite it landing him in exile. He keeps calm under extreme pressure... even when his buddy Mike Wasowski is being a little sh*t and trying his darndest to instigate an explosive reaction.

A weird example I know, but just thought I’d share!

If you've actually watched and enjoyed the show beyond season one, Hank Hill (King of the Hill) is a HVM to me. Sure he's pretty conservative and cringes at Bobby's antics but he goes out of his way to bail out his family, friends, boss, customers at work, etc. when they get in over their head all the time and always stands up for what's right.

For those of you who need examples, my favorites are: he helped Bill when he was suicidal about his ex-wife at Xmas time and got him the closure he needed to finally move on, he saved Dale from death even while he was mad at him, he made sure Connie and Minh were taken care of when Khan ran off after losing his job, he helped Luanne deal with her shitty roommates, he helped his customers get propane in their time of need even after being disgraced by his boss, he told his dad off for disrespecting his mom, he refused to sell out even when a big contract was at stake, he prevented Bobby from social suicide when he was gonna drink dog blood, stood up for Luanne being sexually harassed at work and let's not even get started on Peggy.

With his mysogynist dick of a father it's a wonder how Hank turned out so well but he did it. He's got his flaws like any other man but he won't hesitate to teach Bobby a valuable lesson and will protect his loved ones at all costs when most people would just not even bother. I'll tell you h'wut!

Okay... hear me out... michael Scott AFTER he started dating Holly again. His behavior before then was really cringey. But his last season... the way he proposed to holly, and then deciding to leave his home, the job that he loves and his friends to go help her with her dying father. And also choosing her side over his douchebag friend Packer. Season 7 michael Scott is way better than Jim Halpert in any season.

My favorite HVM is Bhuvan from Lagaan, an Indian epic set in the 1800s during the British occupation of India. The movie introduces his character by showing him throwing rocks at trees to startle deer so that they can run before the British shoot them 😭😍 it's so rare to see kind and considerate men in movies smh

Rick and Evy from The Mummy are one of my ultimate power couples. He's loyal, brave and treats his wife like an equal. His HVM behaviour is shown in how he brings out the best in his wife and vice-versa. In the first film, Evy has been rejected from the Bembridge Scholars multiple times and doesn't have a lot of confidence in exploring/fighting. The second film shows how Rick's unwavering devotion has given her the room to grow. The Bembridge Scholars are now asking her to run the British Museum and she's become a famous explorer. Rick supports her all the way, a true HVM! Plus, as an added bonus, he is played by Brendan Fraser at his most sublime. <3

Not Hollywood, but James Herriot from All Creatures Great and Small (british tv show from the 70's). He treats his wife really well, takes care of her when she's sick, surprises her with things, always respectful, is a great dad, etc.

Even though George is an absolute villain, he loved Elizabeth HARD, gave her whatever she wanted, and even took care of her illegitimate kid (that he hated but still).

Oh and Dwight Enys of course (ptsd episode not withstanding).
