Patriarchy as we know it has only been around for about 10,000 years, and started at approximately the same time that humans started settling down in permanent agricultural communities. Before that, men and women lived in small hunter-gatherer societies which were more equal, or in some cases were even matriarchal.

I'm convinced that men saw what happened to male livestock and were like "oh shit, better invent an entire society structured around serving my penis, don't wanna end up like that guy" points to the goat they just slaughtered

For those of you who have never been to a farm, you wanna know what they do with surplus males?

They eat them.

Genetically superior males are selected for breeding, the rest are castrated and kept alive only until they are large enough to be slaughtered for food.

A small farming operation generally only needs 1-2 males to impregnate their entire herd/flock/whatever, any more than that and they are just another mouth to feed that doesn't produce anything.

Female animals are more productive. They can make more babies, as well as other agricultural products, such as eggs and milk. For male livestock, their only valuable agricultural output is their meat.

Whenever a new calf/kid/lamb is born, the first thing the farmer does is check between the legs to determine the sex.

If it's female? Awesome! More valuable!

If it's male? Ugh, "just another boy"

Lastly, the males that aren't being kept for breeding purposes are almost always castrated, because intact males are more aggressive and therefore more dangerous for the farmer to work with.

I'm convinced that men living in early agricultural communities, who were just starting to figure out animal husbandry, saw what happened to male livestock and were like, "holy shit, I don't wanna lose my balls! Better create an entire social hierarchy and put myself at the top before the women get any ideas"

Now of course, it would be unethical to castrate and/or slaughter human males, obviously. I am NOT advocating violence against men, although I'm sure that the scrotes reading this are gonna be triggered all the same.

Just something to think about, given the fact that patriarchy is now in decline.
