To add to this, Lundy Bancroft says that the biggest cause of a boy growing up to be an abuser is having had key male role models who treated women badly. It has nothing to do with them being abused themselves. When they see others do it they imitate.

Tho, boys who have been abused are more likely to be violent towards other males but not women.

This is basically why Gloria Steinem was quoted as saying feminism won’t have achieved its goals when our daughters are raised more like our sons, but when our sons are raised more like our daughters.

Men need to start modeling pro-social behavior and non-violence, like women have been expected to do for millennia.

I'm fed up. I used to like the Weeknd. He has a new video out, apparently depicting a male randomly killing people to a cool beat. I haven't seen it, but I've seen ads for it. Is this not glamorizing violence? He had a video out depicting shooting a woman cheating on him. Am I supposed to support his money train by watching this? Where in the forties, fifties or sixties was this crap glamorized? We can't live like this. We have to act, to do something.

If you look throughout history, it’s very obvious that violence is primarily a socialized characteristic. Women have been violent in circumstances where they’ve been socialized to be violent, as exemplified by white slave owning women, or women in warrior cultures. As far as I know there isn’t any evidence that men with higher testosterone levels are more violent than men with low testosterone levels. That being said, the combination of testosterone and socialization to be violent makes men particularly dangerous, though this would change if we actually took on the socialization piece and dealt with how men are raised to be entitled aggressive assholes.

This also has me wondering about women. I’m not saying women can’t be independently violent. I know they can. But what I wonder is what percentage were going along with a man’s agenda, when violent (given that we are socialized to want to be “picked”), and/or grew up surrounded by violent adults. Vs. what percentage were just violent despite a good upbringing, and in those cases, if there were unusual amounts of testosterone? Because I’ve known aggressive women from good families and I was always like, “Tf is this coming from?” I found this study but that was really it.

Obviously we can adjust how we socialize boys and girls but...it also makes me wonder, if it’s any argument for (theoretically, since it has human rights issues all over it to actually practically apply) hormonal adjustments for those who are violent? Or perhaps directing them towards activities to release the pressure valve of testosterone that don’t hurt anyone? I know that when my estrogen has taken jumps in the past, I really had to be mindful of how that got directed (never anything violent or aggressive, but it can hurt both the self and others in different ways), and I didn’t really have a solid handle on that until my 30s. I wish I’d learned more about this stuff, how testosterone and estrogen influence behavior, in girlhood.

Yup. I do a lot of research on criminal behavior and while reading about serial killers the FBI once stated that there were no female serial killers. Not entirely true, but the number is something like 99% are male.

I heard this on an Brett Weinstein podcast recently (he's an evo scientist if you don't know). It was essentially said that as humans we have the capacity for evil build into us but have it bashed out of us (rightfully) by socialisation. The power is still there to be unlocked -we've seen this on a big scale in riots, holocaust, mass rapes by militaries etc. If humans don't consciously protect ourselves by enforcing morals, reducing catalysts for violence and punishing animalistic behaviour, and instead play with tropes that trigger the inner Neanderthal, how can a civilised society exist? We've got porn, violence and toxic social media everywhere and we can see what it's doing and where it's leading us. Nowhere good.

Incidentally Brett Weinstein seems very HVM and he and his wife Heather give me hope. They use actual evolutionary science to explain our instincts and how we should use them for the best; quite the opposite to gaslighting scrotes who love regurgitating But Caveman hearsay to justify being trash.
