I repeat -- they always tell on themselves. I'm thankful that my dad was always very open with me about how men are terrible, although I wish I listened more. We laugh about it to this day. He would never take offense to it because A) he agrees, and B) he knows he's one of the good ones.

It does not matter if a lot, or even the majority, of berries are safe to eat. If you pick the wrong berry, you die. We have to assume all berries are poisonous for our own safety. You have to generalize, inspect it closely, and then consume it. It is a tool of survival.

I had a really uncomfortable situation crop up related to this, I asked my neighbor for a recommendation for a part time sitter in the area, and she’ll have him call me... I talked to the guy and didn’t have the heart to straight up shut it down even though I had it ingrained in me to not want a guy sitter. My kid couldn’t talk yet so I was already apprehensive about who watched her and I felt terrible for judging someone and feeling less secure with them alone with my kid just based on their sex. It’s a shitty feeling, and I know there are legit good dude sitters out there but damn, I wish those prejudgements weren’t warranted, that’s just not the world we live in.
