This is why I refuse to marry unless that man worships the ground I walk on and kisses my ass daily. It's too much damn stress for no reward. I make money on my own. They love to threaten me with "you'll be alone when you are old". Good. I see old women bitching about their mean ass husbands all the time. I want no part of that shit. Women my age (38) get in my DM's all the time crying about their sad sack of shit. If you look at the scientific studies, single women are happier than married ones. Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority” and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person” and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.

I feel the above quote applies to this situation. Not sure who the author is, but it is something I can’t get out of my head.
