That reminds me of my male flatmate who had promised his girlfriend to go and see the lanterns at the Chinese New year festivities in the city yesterday.
But the weather was so bad they didn't end up going so while she was at work on Saturday he spent several hours making about 20 HANDMADE paper lanterns of different colours with candles inside that he googled the instructions for because he still wanted to give his girl the experience of a lantern festival. It was so sweet π
Just goes to show it's not about the price tag, but rather how much thought and effort he puts into it!

I like he's asking if it would be "too cheap" because he wants to do better.

I really liked that he was asking if it was a good sign of love. He wants the flowers to really express his feelings.

That's cute (:
I like the thought he's putting into it and that he's asking for advice just to make sure he's doing the right thing.
Only she has the final say in this oc, but it would definitely make me smile if someone put that much thought into things.

Reminds me of my first serious bf, he made me a handmade card with a a poem (that he wrote) for Valentineβs Day (along with chocolate and a stuffie). Tbh I still have that card, not because I have feelings for him, but that was just such a sweet gesture it cracks me up to think of him tapping away with his pencil, trying to find rhyming words for my name π

Iβd say the time and skill required to make them, and the longevity of origami roses makes it a high quality effort.

This is so lovely! Time investments are just as important as money investments to me, so I would love to get origami flowers if real ones weren't an option.

Most flowers sold in Britain come from The Netherlands, with the new red tape and delays by the time the flowers get to the UK they are not fresh anymore or not even fit to be sold
Oh goody. Another Brexit bonus. /s

This is sad.... but at the same time, maybe it's a way to create a new industry in the UK?
A new business idea for a lady here on Reddit?

I mean the reason this has been that way for so long is the weather and that it was cheaper to ship the flowers from inland Europe than investing in creating the artificial conditions for the flowers to grow. It could theorically be done but it would be way more expensive (you would have to pay for land and a place to grow the flowers and process them, gardening items and staff to take care of it, heating to replicate the warmer weather instead of just paying the dutch to ship X number of flowers) and because of that the flowers would have to be a lot more expensive as well. Only way it could work would be by growing flowers that grow in colder and wetter climates but those flowers dont tend to be as flashy so I dont know if people would buy them in enough numbers. If there is real demand it could work but I wouldnt bet on this specific area to invest

That makes sense. Thank you for explaining this.

I loove simple handmade gifts. They are so personal and they show the thought and effort put into it. Goes to show you don't actually have to spend big bucks to touch someone's heart.

I'd strongly prefer it, it is showing an effort and they never die πΉ That being said, I hope he has candy too lol. Just to feed my fat roll.

Even better than real ones, they'll last forever. Maybe write something on 'petals' or something cute like that?
[β]tigerlillyss10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This might be the cutest thing ever. I would love this over real flowers. Just knowing that they spent so much time on it shows they really care!

Even if he only does 20, that's 10 hours. And it's not like he didn't want to get her fresh roses in the first place.

with the amount of time that it will take to make, it brings up the value of the gift. this is honestly so sweet πβ€οΈ

Reminds me of that one boyfriend I had in high school. Weeks ahead he told me he was busy that day (it was during the week) which made me sad, but he promised to celebrate on another day when we both had time.
So valentines day comes and I get home from school to find a trail of candles and rose petals up the stairs that lead to my room and into my room, round in a circle to a love letter and my favourite treats and once I had read it, my boyfriend stepped out of my closet, a stuffed animal in hand.
None of us had a drivers licence and we were living with our parents. So he left school an hour early, begged his mother to drive him 30 minutes to my place, made secret plans with my mother so she wouldn't tell me about it and keep me away until he was ready and send her a text. He had saved his pocket money for a while to buy everything he needed for that day. I still remember that he didn't buy lunch in school for days, claiming he wasn't hungry.
Dude was 16 or 17 when he did that. Still baffles me.

This is a nice thought but a few things
Does she already have a ton of origami stuff he's made in the past that just take up a lot space and collect dust? Has she said before that she'd love origami earrings and did he keep promising to make them but never did?
It's very easy to identify LV behavior from a post, but not HV behavior. This is a sweet post but the only answer to the question is another question "Is your girlfriend the kind of person to enjoy a dozen origami roses?".

I couldn't resist commenting on this post because I just threw away a couple origami knick knacks my ex made for me.
