I really don't understand how being this way is personally fulfilling. Perhaps it's internalized misogyny about a woman's role or needing validation as a woman, but doing this for a man who doesn't do the same, can't be fulfilling.

I see what you mean and I think it’s A LOOOT of that and thinking being a nice girl and taking care of a man will show him you are wife material as well
To play devil’s advocate a little because of this, in a lot of our families, as women we have always been given the nurturing role to alll and I mean alll the men in our families and or seen this played out in our parents’ relationship and some of us even have religious ideologies that can at times play into this way of thinking
It’s so unfortunate because if you are a naturally really caring person you might likely be taken advantage of and even if you do everything this woman did and beyond he might still leave you and not marry you which is very very disappointing and frustrating

Yeah girl. Religion, toxic families, and patriarchy all play a big role. I don't think a woman can be taken advantage of if the man wasn't already predisposed to take advantage of women. Yes, women can be caring. But anybody with a brain knows when they're using someone.
Nonetheless, it's not advisable for marriage or commitment to be the ultimate goal. Those are gestures and can distract you from red flags. I wish women could be deprogrammed and realize no matter what you do, men won't change. Validation must first come from ourselves.

Before I found FDS i thought I was the only woman in the world who refused to pack lunch for my partner. When I was married, my husband would go to work without a lunch and be hungry all day. He would come home ravished and he would never learn to pack something. I still refused to pack it. I’m working full time too, and no one packs my lunch. My son is only 1.5 but I’m teaching him to pack his own lunch starting as soon as he’s able to. It’s not about me being lazy, it’s about not training the next generation of LVM.

Yes!! I have a lot to say about this topic, but this isn't a parenting sub. Basically, I don't do anything for my kids that they are physically capable of doing for themselves. How will they ever appreciate someone else's work or effort if they never put in any of their own? That way lies entitlement, and in the end not only do I not want those kind of (grown) children, I don't want the type of DIL's that would put up with that behavior from a man either.

I’d do it if he was packing my lunch/the kids’ lunches on a regular basis. Or if he was sick or had a particularly bad/busy morning. But I’m so turned off at the idea of doing it every day and getting nothing in return because I had a relationship like that and it sucked. My next relationship needs to be give/take on both sides, not one person (aka the woman) just giving giving giving.

My mom stopped making my lunch when I was like 8. It was a mental health thing but it kind of taught me to be self sufficient lol.

While the meltdown over the fruit snacks is 100% disgusting, I admit I’m the kind of person who would enjoy packing lunch for my future husband.🙈 My love language is acts of service and I genuinely enjoy doing things like that for other people. He’d have to understand that I’m doing it because I truly want to, not because I have to or that I’m his mom.
