It is complex. Consider the evidence that the spread of the distribution of males in measurement of most attributes or behaviour is wider. This will place more men at the extreme antisocial end of the spectrum than women. This could have a biological root in the reduced risk to reproduction of testing genetic mutation more in males. It could also have a social driver, if our treatment of males is more harsh. Then more men would be driven to high achievement to seek acceptance and more males would fail and be driven to distress and resentment.

There are studies which demonstrate that babies that adults perceive as male, due to switching clothing, receive less attention and comfort when they cry. Corporal punishment is more readily applied to boys, boys are encouraged to fight back if bullied. Girls may be comforted and adults or peers fight on their behalf.

Girls learn early that they can more effectively apply violence through social attacks, bitching, isolation or through proxy violence by males on their behalf. In immature males social acceptance will often require willingness to exhibit aggression, while for females physical aggression is discouraged.

Nevertheless the criminal justice system tends to discriminate against males at many levels. Many antisocial male typical behaviours are criminalised while not for females. E.g. hitting someone you have a grievance against as opposed to libelling or falsely accusing them. When men or women act in a similarly criminal manner bystanders are more likely to intervene against the male or call the police, police are more likely to physically aggress or arrest the male, the male is more likely to be charged, be jailed, be found guilty, if found guilty to be imprisoned, if imprisoned to receive a longer sentence, and to serve a longer proportion of the sentence.

Alot of violent crime is initiated by a woman and ended by a man. Every violent situation I've ever been in was started by a woman. The more they are protected by us and from being punished for their actions the more the statistics point towards us. Even domestic violence is very often started by an abusive women but is ended when the guy finally snaps, does one thing back after hours of abuse and is carted off as a violent criminal while she sits down to her soap opera's. The stats that indicate that men are responsible for all of the violence totally leave out what triggered it and include only who was punished for it. When women are violent they are asked and judged by the question of what did he do to deserve this, whereas for men we are not given that saving grace. We are painted as monsters who somehow deserve all punishment despite what was done to us to lead to the violence. It's ridiculous! I'm not saying women are responsible for it all but the fact they are not counted or punished for causing and inciting so much violence really fucks with the statistics. But this is only part of the reason, there are many more factors to this. It's just that women do account for a large part of the "why" behind the violence and it goes undocumented and unpunished.

For the same reason why Women aren't firefighters and roofers, Women are risk averse and do not pursue risky professions and what's more riskier than the criminal underworld?

Also, people saying that Men are "more violent" are living in fantasy land. I'm pretty sure if Women had the same physical strength as men, they'd be "more violent" too. It's just that the average woman is so hopelessly outmatched against Men that she doesn't entertain the idea of violence unless she knows A) The Man is holding back or B) The Police/other Men are there to Save her.

I mean, are we willing to deny women's physical weakness to the point that we're calling Men "inherently violent" just cus Men take advantage of their strength?

The obvious answer to this question is: they don't.

They are systematically targeted more and given harsher treatment in every step of the criminal and judicial process.

Exactly the same between men and women, except it's worse.

We can't really say that men commit more crime than women if women are systematically absolved of wrongdoing and not recorded in the statistics. Statistics become worthless.

Because men is the gender that carries the burden of physical violence.

Men cause the more violence, they suffer the most violence and they fight against the most violence.

So men commit the most crimes, but is also men who commit the most ''anticrimes'', the ones who protect others from violence and prevent violence from happening in the first place.

If men were to dissapear from the planet and only women were left, they would start killing eachother and being violent, because violent is inherent and natural in all organisms.

So the fair thing to do would be to also study how men protect and prevent violence directly or indirectly, but of course is harder to quantify things that ''dont happen''.

One effect on the stats people often forget: size.

People may be more inclined to use physical violence if they are larger than their target, simply due to the relative risk-reward.

So, if there was 100% uniform motivation for violence, but the risk-reward scheme shows small people are almost never going to benefit from enacting violence, then we would expect larger people to commit more violence.

Men, being larger, are more likely than women to WIN fights they start, and therefore, if all other things equal, would be expected to start more fights.

Are 5'3 men as likely as 6'3 men to start fights? Doubtful.

But they are still men of course. The effect might not stem fron testosterone at all, just size relative to peers.

Those statistics are a byproduct of a western culture that prosecutes men to the fullest extent of the law while simultaneously holding women to the standards of children.

Women committing violence is so common that if we prosecuted them like men, most would be in jail. The west literally has to make violence legal for women.

Is this a stretch? Maybe but think about this.

Agree or not, abortion is absolute violence at minimum, murder depending on point or view. Want to compare male murder rates to abortion rates? We literally had to make female violence legal to keep them our of jail.

Women hitting men? So damn common you would be hard pressed to find a woman that hasn’t at least slapped a man or punched him in the arm. 70% of all domestic violence initiators are women, but we have to pretend women can’t hurt men to keep them out of jail.

Explain to me why paternity fraud isn’t prosecuted at minimum as embezzlement, at most as flat out robbery.

False allegations of sexual or physical assault? There are literally books to teach women how to use false allegations to their advantage in family courts.

Sexual assault of young men? Even when convicted their sentences will be a fraction of that if committed by a man.

Men are not more violent than women, we just live in a society that treats female violence as a joke.

Edit: the best way to phrase this is: men are not more violent than women, we just have different preferences in weapons. And as someone else commenting pointed our, a frequent weapon women use is a manipulated man.

Well the simple answer is that men have more testosterone, which increases aggression. That's... really it.

There's no one answer, but it is most likely a combination of biological, social and economic reasons.

The "warrior gene theory" gained quite a bit of traction in recent decades to explain why some males account for the overwhelming majority of violence. However, I believe it has fallen out of favour in recent years.

I used to touch on this area in my classroom as part of the explanations of crime, but I no longer teach that topic, so I'm a bit rusty on the details and trends.

Testosterone, biological roles, and keep in mind that an unbelievable amount of violent crimes are not organized crime planned actions but male teen - young man stupid pointless violence, once again driven by hormones plus environment
