It's one of those classic cases where misogyny is considered anything a woman don't like in a man. A classic example, is some women not liking equality, and perfering benevolent sexism. Therefore they think men that are egalitarians are automatically misogynistic by default. In this case we are talking about toxic masculinity.

I know some people think toxic masculinity isn't real, and also think misogyny is exaggerated. I do believe the misogyny term has been blown out of proportion over the years. But at the bare minimum I just think toxic masculinity is just a man justifying bad toxic behaviors in the name of masculinity. Similar to how some religious people do bad things in the name of religion. But there is nothing inherently wrong about masculinity and religion though.

But again what I'm starting to realize is that people are just labeling traits they don't like in men toxic masculinity, similar to the misogyny vs egalitarians example. This is very silly. I have a male asexual friend who is not affectionate. A lot of women tell him that he is performing toxic masculinity because he isn't affectionate. I'm like, how is that toxic masculinity? Again toxic masculinity is whatever they don't like in a man.

I have anecdotal experience here. Where I was just a quite kid in high school who wasn't social. I remember a woman using me as an example of toxic masculinity. Saying how men want to be standoffish, non charlatant, and pretend not to care about anything. This is kind of ironic, since this is coming from a woman. Since that's usually the gender that hates being told to "smile more". So in my experiences with what people consider toxic masculinity. It's usually never about actual toxic behavior. Which is funny.

In a earlier paragraph I already made a simple definition of toxic masculinity. The definition was pretty much me saying that masculinity is only toxic, when men go to the extreme and justify toxic behaviors in the name of masculinity, compare this to religion. For example, a man constantly cat calling women or talking about women as objects because that's his idea of masculinity. Now that would be considered toxic masculinity. Because that man is using masculinity to justify bad behavior.

Masculinity is only considered toxic if it's being used to justify bad behaviors to me. Simple definition right. But no to some people (usually feminists) toxic masculinity is whatever man do that they don't like. So a man being asexual, nonchalant, asocial, non affectionate, or standoffish is not toxic masculinity. Just how male egalitarians are not misogynistic. You can't label a person natural behavior toxic, especially if they are not harming other people (I would think toxic masculinity would be exclusively all about harm).

Again at this point toxic masculinity is just a trait or neutral behavior a particular woman doesn't like in a man. Since nothing about a man being noncharlant or standoffish shows that he has toxic masculinity. It's just certain women not liking certain traits in men. Again just how male egalitarians are not misogynistic, it's just certain women or feminists not liking equality lol.

Or it's no different from women calling non creepy men creepy or "sus". They are only calling these men creepy because they feel uncomfortable around socially awkward men or unattractive men.

To use my anecdotal experiences here. Women constantly call me misogynistic or say I have toxic masculinity. Because I'm not friendly with female strangers and I treat both men and women the same. I'm like no lady you just don't like non chivalrous men that don't put you on a pedestal.

Again for the most part terms like toxic masculinity, misogyny, and creepy are only being used to describe traits or mannerisms certain women dislike in men. These terms are rarely ever used to describe something serious or something that is actually bad. I considered toxic masculinity, misogyny, and creepy the big 3. And the big 3 is constantly used to target normal men for just existing.

Toxic masculinity is whatever they don't find attractive in a man. No different from men being called "creepy" or "misogynistic". On the flip side positive masculinity is whatever they do find attractive in men. Like men opening doors, helping women raised step kids, men helping women, and men being chivalrous. Half of the time toxic masculinity and positive masculinity is never about the bad or good things men are doing for the collective of society. It's usually about whatever personal dislikes or expectation a particular woman has for a man. Hence why I don't take everybody using these terms seriously.

In conclusion.

Most of what is considered toxic masculinity to a lot of women online is just personal relationship preferences and arbitrary icks. BTW, I'm not using the silly term "ick" in a normal way.

So since the term toxic masculinity comes with a lot of baggage, combine that with people not using the term correctly. This cause a lot of innocent non problematic men to get hit in the crossfire. And now they are labeled toxic masculinity men for having normal behaviors.
