In my first post here, I expressed excitement over finding a sub that apparently recognizes and tackles the serious fauxgressive problem that has deeply infiltrated modern-day leftist communities. As I stated:

First, let me say that I'm super glad this sub exists! Contemporary leftist culture is currently plagued by fauxgressives. Virtually all self-proclaimed "leftists" buy into some fauxgressive hype or another, particularly when it comes to issues concerning women, sexuality, and gender. This sub is a nice breath of fresh air and a much-needed backlash against the dominant narrative in leftist communities regarding the "patriarchy" and similar topics.

However, it's come to my attention that, while virtually everyone here opposes fauxgressive ideals relating to women and sexuality, the consensus seems supportive of fauxgressive gender claptrap, namely popular transgender ideology. Unfortunately, it appears that most here feel that this ideology is legitimately leftist.

Yet trans ideology's conservative function is rather blatant. For example, its insistence on the usage of gendered nomenclature (e.g., pronouns such as "he/her," "his/hers," and "he/she," as well as terms including "man/woman" and "hetero-/bi-/homosexual" in reference to people's genders rather than their biological sex) legitimates and reinforces the oppressive social construct of gender. Clearly, a genderless society would be linguistically genderless and would not reproduce gender via speech in this, or any other manner. This ideology and its gendered linguistic practices work against progressive efforts to cultivate such a society; it serves to maintain (or "conserve") gender and is counterproductive to gender abolitionism.

Additionally, trans ideology relies on biological determinist explanations of gender identity. Biological determinism, which functions to promulgate the myth that social inequalities are "natural," immutable givens resistant to change via political means, is of course an inherently conservative ideology. Indeed, large volumes of works, including Harvard geneticist and evolutionary biologist RC Lewontin, Cambridge neuroscientist Steven Rose, and the late Harvard psychologist Leon Kamin's Not in Our Genes: Biology, Ideology, and Human Nature (particularly its third chapter, titled "Bourgeois Ideology and the Origins of Determinism") and Lewontin's Biology as Ideology: The Doctrine of DNA, have thoroughly documented biological determinism's bourgeois ideological roots. In fact, an entire subdiscipline of the field of psychology, critical psychology, works to assess and refute ideological assumptions in mainstream psychology from a progressive, Marxist standpoint.

Though trans rights activists are partially driven by genuine leftist concerns (e.g., equal rights in domains including housing, employment, and education, as well as the elimination or substantial reduction of interpersonal transphobic prejudice and discrimination), the dominant practices and ideology surrounding their issues do not serve these ends and are obviously fundamentally conservative. To be sure, this conservative ideology's deceptive progressive veneer is precisely what makes it quintessentially fauxgressive.

I am frankly disappointed that this sub's user base largely buys into popular transgender ideology, despite so adeptly deconstructing fauxgressive nonsense involving women, sexuality, and other issues. It is my hope that this post will be a kind of rude awakening for those of you who uncritically advocate this ideology, or at least stimulate discussion and thereby expose the weaknesses of the argument that it is truly leftist.
