Because no amount of money or fame will save you once cupcake loses respect or attraction.

Others discuss the merits of visiting prostitutes, and how pop songs are feminist propaganda. The more you scroll, the darker it becomes.

One recent post described how women “fake orgasms often, because it makes men more submissive”. Another talked of “ditching” his “blue pill friends.” Others proudly declare that they are still virgins.

The MGTOW community has a pretty clear set of expectations for themselves and the wider world that are based in meninism: a counteraction to feminism which sees women’s rights directly disadvantage men.

For feminists, the so-called rights they are claiming (quotas in hiring, preferential treatment in the courts, destruction of male spaces, subsidizing of female spaces) cannot exist without disadvantaging men.

While feminists might argue that their movement aims to help both men and women break free of harmful gender stereotypes, meninists disagree.

Feminists have no interest in breaking the one "harmful" gender stereotype that most benefits them: That any man must put a woman's wants or desires ahead of his own in the name of "chivalry" or "gentlemanly behavior."

To them, men are the victims of heterosexual relationships, comparable to a horse with a cart strapped it its back. MGTOWs borrow heavily from pop-culture to explain their beliefs, particularly the film the Matrix where the Chosen One chooses to reject his blinkered "blue pill" life in favour of the awareness offered by the "red pill".

When was the last time someone used a reference from "The Matrix" here?

As the MGTOW movement is entangled with alt-right and libertarian politics, the third step sees the man focusing on earning money in order to sustain himself.

In this quest, obstacles include feminists; white knights (men who are “chivalrous” towards women); social justice warriors; those who are pro-LGBT rights and support safe spaces, amongst other things.

Their heroes? The so-called herbivore men of Japan who have no interest in finding long-term female partners, a label with which half of men in their 20s and 30s identify.

The origins of MGTOW are unclear. The MGTOW website loftily suggests their ideals hark back to “Schopenhauer, Tesla, Beethoven, Galileo, or even Jesus Christ”, and equates it to "fire".

And while their communities may be virtual, their determination seems very real indeed.

Part of the problem with this article is its attempt to characterize everyone who embraces the concept of 'going his own way' as people who merely regurgitate dumb acronyms while blaming women for all social ills.

This is short sighted and factually incorrect though I can see how someone would get that impression from /r/MGTOW considering just how many posts are dedicated to rage against women and modern interpretations of 'PC' culture.

Relationships with women lead men to financial ruin, suicide, isolation from family (especially children) and friends, and other devastating results with long lasting negative consequences.

In this age of rejecting traditional roles for men and women, the risks of relationships are not outweighed by the potential (perhaps fictional) rewards.

As women increasingly reject lifetime monogamy, the role of supportive wives, and motherhood, marriage becomes nothing more than a gigantic legal and financial liability disguised by the lies of previous generations.

Outside of marriage relationships with women still pose additional risks to employment, savings, freedom and reputation (in cases of abuse or sexual misconduct allegations) where due process is secondary to public perception, mental and physical health, and more.

That's not to say men don't present any risks to women or that women are incapable of making positive changes in the lives of men too.

However, the basic concept of MGTOW focuses on what men can do to protect themselves and avoid the risks posed by women that can ruin their lives. The most effective risk avoidance strategy is to abandon the traditional role of provider and protector, marriage, and all of the ridiculous expectations of men to accommodate or support women through personal sacrifices.

It is more accurate to consider that perhaps, it is an observable symptom, or foreshadowing of what will eventually happen in larger numbers to modern developed countries in the near future.

Japan's herbivore men are merely pioneers in spearheading the response to:

Declining socioeconomic conditions
Declining birth rates, and growth in aging population
Poor economic outlook, with fewer long term secure jobs available, due to technology
Abysmal work culture, and mundane family lifestyle

For me MGTOW is less about 'women are shitty, so I'm better off alone' and more about 'I'm better off alone than being with a shitty woman.' Makes a world of difference. I think a lot of guys and girls get themselves into shitty relationships because they feel they have to or society pressures them to.

I think most women are shitty, relationship wise, but am lukewarm towards them as an acquaintance.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that this is sort of a reactionary movement. The pop culture puts women on pedestals and tell men to try to win women over.

Also, PUAs just seem sad to me. I get it, and to each man their own, but I can't go thay route. It just seems to be female subservience packaged in a more constructive way.
