Divorce is wild. My boss is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He’s almost frighteningly calm and laid back-he just seems to love his job and shake off any negativity. I kinda admire him for it. We went out to a job and had to stop by his house to get some tools, and I was kinda shocked to see where he lived was so rundown and in a bad area. I wasn’t gonna say anything, but it just seemed strange that someone who made almost twice as much as me lived in a place only half as good as I do. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I found out that my boss was a retired police officer in one of our states sketchiest cities before he worked in our office. As it turns out, he should be making about $30k/year in pension, which wouldn’t make him rich, but combined with Social Security, some savings, and living within his means, he shouldn’t have to work again. I learned that his ex wife who worked their entire marriage, and helped raise two kids who are now fully grown(despite him buying cars for his son and a wedding for the daughter) now gets HALF of his pension for the rest of his life. This totally baffles and angers me, like she wasn’t out in the police cruiser tracking down criminals, getting into fistfights, risking her life every day! It was him. He did that job, he made the choice to sock HIS pay away in a responsible way. How the state decided to take away HALF of the pension of one of its most dedicated protectors for life because a woman was accommodated to a certain level of lifestyle is beyond me. Like i can grasp the rationale of the concept of splitting the assets that you paid for together, or even child support, but this just seems cruel. Anytime somebody mentions the “gender wage gap” tell them about Alimony.

People just cannot relate divorce injustice to the suicide rate. A guy tells me his daughter divorced the father of her 3 children and he kills himself about a year into the divorce. Says the guy was selfish and has nothing to do with his daighter or the guy loosing half his income for 10+ years. Basically facing homeless yet having to keep a job for survival.
