She goes out, gets drunk as per normal. She comes home to divorce papers beside the sink, next to a bottle. You tell her to pick one, then leave the house for a few days. You spend that time talking to a lawyer (with your crazy income) and preparing your case for her to follow through, and going out and practicing game.

Come home, go directly and take a shower before saying a word or doing anything. If the bottle isn't dumped into the sink, sign the papers. If the papers are signed, call your lawyer and proceed.

It's a nuke, but that's how you asset a boundary, consequences are there as a matter of fact, not some threat, looming in the distance that you can weasel out of

You know, I wouldn't recommend staying married to this girl. You got no real financials to worry about, no children to fight over custody with. You have an easier out than most of us. You are talking about changing her through this whole post. That's alot of effort for someone, as you describe, is not even worth it.

This is a major issue in your marriage. Couple that with your descriptions of her twice or thrice weekly partying and drinking, and her leaving early for a business trip, and her drunk dialing you at 4 am, and I can conclude:

1) your wife has no respect for you at all. This is not how wives act with their husbands. Wives who respect their husbands do not flirt with other men in front of them. This isn't just disrespect, it's open rebellion. It's a declaration of all out war.

2) Your wife is not sexually attracted to you. Wives who are sexually attracted to their husbands do not actively seek attention from other men.

3) Your wife is, at the very least, strongly considering cheating on you, if she hasn't cheated already.

I've read through the OP and OP's comments, and the replies from the regulars.

There are so many issues and problems here...

First, the relationship and the two of you together. I don't know how it is you got together. It sounds, from your description, that the two of you don't enjoy each other and don't have a lot of fun together. It sounds like you have separate interests. You don't like to do the stuff she likes; she doesn't like to do the stuff you like. You don't really have all that much in common other than being together a long time.

You got married when she was 29 after being together and dating 5 years (probably a couple or three years dating, probably a year or two living together). Gee, where have I heard this story before? I'll bet you got married because a few of her friends were getting married and she decided "It is time to get married" or "We're either getting married or we're breaking up" and she started using sex as leverage on you. Started saying "marry me or no sex for you". Tell me that's not how it happened.

A major thing you don't have in common is that you don't see eye to eye on kids. You want them; she doesn't. There are reasons for that, I'm sure, and they go deeper than her just wanting to drink and party. But the main thing to know right now is that your lack of agreement on kids is and will be a major, major problem in your marriage. It already is a major problem, because you resent her and her conduct. A woman heading into her mid 30s and approaching the end of her fertile years who's trying to get pregnant and wants children does not go out on a weekly basis polluting her body with booze and staying out until the wee hours of the morning.

Let me put this in italics. Under no circumstances should you impregnate your wife. Do not have children with her under these current circumstances. For the love of all that is holy, do not involve other people in this.

You aren't really husband and wife. You're roommates who share living expenses and bank accounts, and who have sex occasionally. You're FWBs, with her getting most of the "friends" and the "benefits".

Let's talk about you. I agree with the other posters here. You are boring (at least to her) and you are trying to control your wife in an attempt to save the marriage. You work all the time and she never sees you. She works all the time and blows off steam partying and drinking. You don't want to party with her, so she does it with people who do want to party with her.

Your attempts at controlling her are mainly because of your fear. You're afraid if you don't save this marriage, you won't be able to attract someone else. You're looking at sunk costs.

My advice to you is slightly different from most other posters. First thing is that you really need to decide what you want, and what you're willing to do to get there. You need to decide if you want this marriage and to stay married to your current wife. Then decide what you're willing to do to make that happen. That means you might have to forgo kids, and you might have to put up with her drinking/partying. That also means she might change and start responding to things you do to improve.

For the life of me, though, I don't understand why you would want to put so much effort into saving a marriage where it's clear the two of you don't really like each other all that much, and don't have much in common, and have no children to benefit from your staying together. I don't get why you want to do all these things to improve to save the marriage. Don't improve to "have a better marriage". Improve because you want it for you. But "improve" isn't going to involve changing all your hobbies or giving up the ones you like just because you believe it will make you more attractive to her. It won't.

The main thing here, and why I'm encouraging you to count the costs, is that you don't have any kids. THis is a lot of work and effort to preserve a marriage to a woman you don't really like, you don't trust, she doesn't like or trust you, you don't have a lot in common, and with whom you have no children. I see no reason for you to expend all this effort for the purpose of saving the marriage.

I see a lot of reason for you to improve yourself so you don't repeat this pattern with the next woman (women). Shift your focus from her to YOU. You need to figure out who you are, and what you like, and what you want out of a relationship with a woman. You need to avoid controlling women because you can't do it and it's a sign of a deep seated issue in you. You need to get that looked at. You need to decide what boundaries you need, set them, and enforce them hard. YOu need to decide what boundaries you want, set them, and enforce them hard as well. You don't set boundaries well and you don't enforce them well.

Now let's talk about her. She's clearly not sexually attracted to you. Wives who are sexually attracted to their husbands don't call them "boring" to their faces. If she were sexually attracted to you, she wouldn't be spending a couple nights a week out drinking and partying with friends, i.e., with "not you".

And about her drinking and partying on a weekly basis: Archwinger said something at asktrp like this. Regular partying and GNOs are not the hobby or practice of married women, or at least not the practice of a woman who is wife material or who wants to be married. Regular partying and GNOs are the hobby and practice of young single women.

Bottom line - Decide what you want and then do that. I don't see the point of remaining married to a woman with whom you have less and less in common with each passing month, with whom you don't have kids, and who has said she doesn't want kids.

Was this because you swallowed the red pill, or vice versa? You say in your earlier post she doesn't respect you... but you don't mention how your sex life is/was. Are you working through a slump, or has she just never been that attracted to you? It sounds like she chose you because you're stable, and not Chad, but she still longs for something more. Still, she's not a shrew or fucking around, just not submissive enough.

You're only 5 months in and already talking about dropping papers. What level of dread are you at? You should only be at DL5 or 6 by now. There are several more steps (DL 7-9) that you can take before nuking the marriage (DL 10) and they are pretty powerful. Keep in mind this is a process, and it should take a least a month for each stage.

That said, if you're really not interested in saving this (no kids, no passion) and you're on top of your fitness/financials/game, then go ahead and jump to divorce. 35M with your CV, you should be able to hit the ground running.

1) Am I the Captain with respect to this issue: In other words if she's constantly spending money and you're going to set a boundary for it to stop, do I have the finances under control? Do I have my own spending under control? Have I shown any kind of track record for being in command here? If the answer is no then I can gaurantee she'll shit test that to you as the first rebuttal. You're trying to command from a point of weakness, literally. Have you seen Game of Thrones where Theon, who's never commanded a ship (talking literally now) before, tries to command a salty bunch of his own men when given a ship just because he's heir apparent? Fucking laughable.

2) Or else: And what will I do if she crosses this boundary? For overspending it could be "Okay then, we're getting separate accounts, paying equally into house costs, and you can piss away whatever pennies you have left."

In some cases though, like yours, you're trying to control her in a way you have no direct control. Now it may just be an outlet of expression for her, or it may be that getting drunk is what she likes. What she likes she likes. You can't take away her ability to go to a bar and drink herself stupid short of chaining her to a pipe in the basement. In this case she has to know that what she's taking away in this case is value. After I had the speech with my wife where I told her my vision is that we'll get to a place where we are both providing value to each other not in a "this for that" kind of way, but because we're both striving for our full potential, to make this marriage and family all it can be and if she did not want to go to that place that I'll tell her to GTFO my ship...after that speech I could come at something like this by just internalizing that her disregarding that boundary not to drink is her taking away value. It's her declaring "In this scenario, I refuse to provide value". Plain and simple. She is free to do as she pleases as she always has been, but knows who the captain is. When I clearly dictate that she needs to conform to this or that boundary, and that boundary is really something I cannot actually control from her, and then she doesn't conform, then I just smile. I smile because I have just recieved, as a gift from her, a clearer insight as to how much value she's willing to bring. And knowing that piece of information now will allow me to make a quicker and more informed decision when I wonder if the continuance of staying my current path in this house with this wife is worth more than the value I can find elsewhere.

What I read is an overly reactive emotional response by you (we'll get a divorce, dammit) to your boundary being crossed. Or else you're conflating the idea of hard, aggressive response with the idea of boundary setting. Either way, whoa, cowboy, slow down.

Your post is full of a bunch of irrelevant self-qualification (top 10%, finances, etc etc) which says you're still at some level an approval seeker. This isn't the kind of frame that skillfully decides on and navigates the destruction of your marriage.

I agree with the observation a lot of others have made - what do you even see in her? There's NOTHING in the post I read or any of your comments that say "yeah, she's an awesome girl and an amazing lover, she just has this one thing with her sister that gets to me...". All I hear is nothing in common, nothing in common, nothing in common.

You describe her as having no hobbies other than drinking and partying. Maybe this is hyperbole, I don't know. But if that's all she does (interspersed with watching TV), then SHE's the boring one. And obviously if you only party with her once a month then she sees the other 29 days (97 percent) of the month as boring. No wonder she goes over to her sister's to get drunk - she sounds like a useless bag of bones with nothing to offer, yet expects to be entertained and excited 24/7. Sure, you need to be more exciting to her, but knowing this about her, is it even worth it?

And about the drinking... well, if she can't remember the call, she's blackout drunk. And having a conversation with someone in that state is useless, and having a conversation about her behaviour afterwards with someone who frequently gets that drunk too, is also kind of useless. It'll just be met with denial, addictive denial. Ask yourself what you're doing to enable this behaviour, and stop doing it.

My advice is to hold onto those papers, don't put them on the table yet, since this smells like a frustrated reactive reply, not a well thought out and considered plan. You need to improve your self in the ways of validation-seeking, being more fun, and leading her to other types of behaviour than getting drunk with her sister all the time. And you seriously have to consider why you're with her at all. Don't hang onto a marriage just because it's a marriage if you're both miserable and there's nothing between you. In any event, work on YOU first. But if there is something there, some redeeming qualities you haven't mentioned, then ask whether you want to put in the effort into leading her, before pulling the pin.

The thing about boundaries is they have to be enforceable. More to the point they have to be seen as a boundary. Your wife see's you as overbearing and forcing compliance. So she gives you lip service and tells you what you want to hear, then goes off and has a good time with her Sis.

Boundaries are enforced because people fear the repercussions. But what I read is that you and her "had an agreement." Personally that sounds like the kind of bullshit where "we agreed to have sex on Saturday nights; I would romance her and she would dress sexy" It's a beta move designed to placate you.

Women communicate feeling, so while she told she wouldn't drink, what she was saying was "I feel your pain when I drink." She never had any intention of abiding by the agreement.

She has in past (before I arrived at MRP) during all such 'talks' and discussions said she feels she is inadequate for me, and I should find someone else.

Again, watch her actions don't listen to her words. She hangs out at home and watches TV or goes out early for a biz trip without you. To me her words above are lip service and in fact projection that she in fact feels you are not at her level, what ever that is.

Others have said it, but it bears repeating, detach the emotional hose. Take her off the pedestal and watch her actions for what they are, a woman who is not invested in you. Is that worth divorcing over? Meh, it's not up to me because obviously there's a lot we are not seeing.

Dread isn't about fear of the law, you laying down commands that she fears disobeying. Dread is about fear of loosing you and all the wonderfulness that you provide. I would never tell my wife she couldn't go out drinking, but if she did and made a fool of herself, she would find herself spending a lot less time with me. My time is valuable and I've made it abundantly clear that being a good woman is rewarded with it.

You say you're a boring guy. But as I read what your hobbies are- hiking, biking etc.. you seem, from the write up, to be a guy who is now living a fun and active lifestyle.

Your wife strikes me as a very immature woman. She perpetuates this immaturity by hanging out in the "single old hag " hen house. Here they're all trying to live out their "glory days".Which in reality is pretty laughable. Like any single guy with a sense of self worth, and options, wants to fuck some bitty with droopy tits and cellulite. Honestly, if drinking and partying are all she lives for - she's a typical useless american chick. In reality she's the boring one. I think holding firm to boundaries is key with this one. If she decides to leave - tell her to enjoy the ride. In the end you will be the one to come out on top. On the other hand if you stay together - keep holding her to the boundaries that matter and keep making your life even better for yourself. Is 'boring' part of your identity? I'm pretty sure 'boring' trumps 'nice' as the worst possible descriptor or any single male. At least 'nice' guys make some pretense out of trying to gently fornicate with the opposite sex.

If you're boring, why aren't you out there fixing the problem? Why do you expect any woman to suffer with boring Joe Nobody when there are so many people out there who are better?
