What should a mother who cares about men's rights do in the situation I was in?

I have 2 sons and my husband was determined they had to be circumcised so they would look like him. My parents were horrified at the idea their grandsons might be left looking like "uncivilised savages" if I followed what they termed my hippie, militant-feminist beliefs.

So I discussed this with my GP and pediatrician, and they said to just let the hospital do its job and have a surgeon "take care of that" for me. They promised my babies would feel no pain and be better off for it.

What I chose: >! I believed my sons' rights to their natural bodies trumped everyone else's reasons for having their penises painfully mutilated. It turned out they had handicaps, which made my husband, (now ex,) want nothing to do with them anyway. They are now adults, and have never had any health or cleanliness problems from being uncut. !<

Should be banned. I don't care about peoples religion or preferences when they are being imposed on children. If men want to be circumcised, let them chose that, and pay for it themselves, when they are of an age to make an informed decision about it.

Im from Europe, i have a foreskin, everyone i know has a foreskin. So when I ask people to really check, they all come back with the same answer, yes the foreskin is very sensitive and erogenous....

Like, I understand that this has been a cultural phenomenon across all cultures for millennia. Circumcision is not unique to America.

What I find is unique to America is any backlash at the idea of not circumcising my child and anytime I mention why I won't circumcise my children, I am met with the most heinous comments from people. "Oh, I don't want him to get bullied in the locker room."

31F, currently pregnant with my first baby, a girl. My husband and I decided we will NOT circumsize possible future son(s) unless medically necessary (which is rare). Circumcision is an issue being discussed among couples having kids, but it's not in the public discourse as much as it should be. I largely think it's because many men had that decision was made for them at birth.

I decided to keep my son's genitalia intact. Unfortunately, his urologist has recommended for him to have the procedure. My son is 7. He is hurting.

If I had known the physical pain he would go through, I would've made a different choice when he was born. I just didn't know. But we don't know everything. We must make the best decision we can, with the information we have.

The comments about the foreskin being useful and full of billions of sensitive nerve endings is not factually relevant. ONLY males circumcised as adults, with the same amount of mucosal membrane left, as is seen in infants circumcised at birth, can tell anyone what the effect of circumcision is. It's especially silly when women chime in. Every properly conducted study of men circumcised as adults shows there is a neutral to a slightly positive effect. The medical evidence supports newborn circumcisions. Doing it later is more costly and carries more complications. Still, it is not as painful as the old-wives tales suggest.

The argument that adult men should have the choice is silly because why would a man who has been told it is a terrible ordeal to be circumcised as an adult, voluntarily do it, because he is unlikely to be able to easily find the evidence that it is not as bad as he has heard? Every male I have spoken to who was circumcised as an adult, myself included, would never want to go back to the 'natural' state.

I got circumcised when I was 21 and knowing now how much more enjoyable sex is with my banana peeled makes me laugh at the anti-circ brigade that spread all the rubbish scaremongering. My only regret is that I didn't get myself done sooner and when the hot weather kicks in, you REALLY appreciate not having a thermos over your head. Mutilation is another idiotic term. We remove tonsils because they do nothing useful, your appendix has no function except sit inside you like a ticking time bomb and if it decides to pop it has to be ripped out as a medical emergency or you're dead, yes that's right nature gave us parts of our body that can kill us if not removed. The appendix may have had some useful function eons ago when we were cavemen and the foreskin is the same, had a use once but in 2021 we are better off without it. Time to move on people. Given all the medical benefits to being done (the foreskin is a breeding ground for HPV the prime cause of cervical cancer) circumcision should be seen as a surgical vaccine. Cut if off as a baby and it's sorted. I would never ever want to go back to having my foreskin. Anyone who has not been circumcised is in no posiiton to comment. Then again there are lots of antivaxxers out there who think COVID-19 will go away by itself too so...

I've never understood the whole, "He's Jewish so he's cut!" argument. It's not just Jewish guys that get circumcised, thankfully. They're just the ones that have a big ceremony about it, for whatever reason.

Genuine question, is it fair to equate it to FGM? I’m not saying circumcision shouldn’t be a personal choice and not imposed on you. But FGM has literally 0 benefits for girls/women, and healthcare providers spend billions of dollars to treat women who have undergone the procedure, and it can have lifelong consequences.

On the flip side, most boys who do get a circumcision are able to live a normal life. I think the complication rate is only 1.5%, and it happens at birth. I think one of the reasons there is a focus on FGM is also because it is also forced on a girl as late as 15 years old, and they don’t use anesthesia and just hold them down.

Just so it’s clear Nothing here is meant in a hostile manner, and I think it should be a personal choice. But is it really fair to equate it to FGM?

I am circumcised and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way. Looks better, cleaner, and I think more pleasurable with sex. But I’m only for it if it’s done when you’re a baby. Any age after that, and I’m against it.

For those that have an issue with it, I understand if it’s done at an older age but other than that, go chill. The big problem is female circumcision

I actually am glad I was circumcised. While it happened in religious context, I don't consider myself super religious.

If I weren't religious and weren't circumsised 8 days after birth, I would probably have it done as a medical procedure as an adult, due to the cleanliness benefits, though I heard it's super fucking painful as an adult. Supposedly it's far less painful, if done correctly, at a young age.

Kellogg was fucked up with fake science about pleasure, and it led to generations of non-religious children circumsised in hospitals.

FGM should absolutely be banned. That shit is abusive and not the same as circumcision in terms of end result.
