Infant genital cutting should not be done except in rare cases where it is overwhelmingly clear it is a medical necessity.

There should be no difference between males and females in this regard.

It's horrible.

1) It really does make me less able to enjoy stimulation around my circumcision scar some of the time. I am still perfectly capable of enjoying sex overall, but sometimes if, say, I'm getting head and there's too much friction from the tongue/lips just under the glans (where the scar is) it produces such an unpleasant sensation that I lose my erection.

2) I think men who say they are "grateful" to be circumcised, are tools. I can't help it. When I hear that I can only wish they never have sons, because I know they'll just carry on the barbarism in the name of resolving their cognitive dissonance over the fact that the people they've loved their whole lives had them mutilated without their consent.

3) The justifications for it are incredibly insulting to boys. As though we couldn't maintain proper hygiene if we were simply taught how from the beginning. (Pull it back: is that so hard?)

4) The logical conclusion of such arguments for neonatal MGM is that some form of neonatal FGM should be normalized (probably, at least, clitoral hoodectomy, which is already the most common form of FGM in the world and analogous to male circumcision). After all, girls are much more susceptible to UTIs than boys, all things being equal. Yet when you point this out, even to people who aren't feminists, you are shouted down by anti-intellectual morons spouting baseless "facts" about how all forms of FGM actually increase UTI rates. There is no evidence for this; they always refer to anecdotal accounts of girls who experienced UTIs after undergoing full clitorodectomy.

5) The studies purporting to show that it decreases transmission of HIV are fraught with ludicrous bias and methodological problems, not least of which is that when men are circumcised for the studies, they are told not to have sex while their dicks are healing; men not circumcised for the studies are more likely to be out fucking right away. But even if that weren't the case, these studies are completely irrelevant to the fight against HIV transmission even in developing countries, and are likely to provide false security ("I can just be circumcised instead of using a condom!") and thereby increase transmission rates.

6) These studies, like the normalization of MGM on the whole, are responsible for unacceptable levels of stigma suffered by the in tact. When I see/hear about mocking and bullying of in-tact boys in locker rooms and after their perfect, natural "abnormality" is discovered, I think about the medical community's complicity in this bullying.

7) All this makes me trust humanity less. I think it has the exact same effect on many boys when they first learn what circumcision is and that it was done to them when they had no ability to consent.

I could go on about this literally all day, and then some. But in short, I am unambiguously pissed off by the practice, and all attempts to tell me that I should be grateful rather than pissed off are simply insults to my intelligence.

Same as with sex: fine if we're talking about a consenting adult.

But without consent or on a child (who obviously can't consent) that's fucked up.

Im curious, what are your opinions on circumcision?

I'm not religious, which strikes me as the largest barrier to stopping circumcision. The practice alone would be barbaric, but the rationalizations for it are just flat out ridiculous. So I'm against it, with the exception that a consenting adult can do whatever they want with their body. The problem is circumcising a non-consenting infant when the only reason for it boils down to religious, cosmetic, and dubious health benefits.

Maybe that will get people thinking. At least we can stop the spread of herpes, eh? Don't want to put some rabbis at risk of the first circumcision is botched and they need to try again.

Even in situations where it isn't botched it has negative effects. I've heard the truly ridiculous argument that it's supposed to help prevent UTIs. Cutting off part of an infants body just to reduce the chance of getting a not very serious illness? If you get a UTI, the treatment is a 10 day course of antibiotics, hardly worth mutilating someone and impacting their sex life for good without giving them any choice in the matter, all for simply LOWERING THE CHANCE of contracting one.

I'll bite.

I am circumcised, as was my father. I'm guessing that's why it was done. My brother too.

As a little kid, I remember thinking my penis was normal, and was really weirded out by my friend's uncircumcised penis (it was a camp, group shower thing). But all I knew was mine and my brother's schlongs were "normal" as they were, so of course foreskin was weird to me. Anyway...

I now have my own boys. Both of which I had circumcised. The only real reason was because I wanted them to look like me, and I didn't remember the pain of it, so why not?

It wasn't until long after I realized I was the one who was "weird" or I should say "unnatural". I shouldn't say "weird" because honestly, the closest women in my life thought an uncircumcised penis was gross. But that probably because a circumcised penis is so common, that yeah, you like what you're used to.

If I had it to do over, no I wouldn't have done it to my kids.

And just to throw this out, my 3 best friends have wives with fake tits. And 2 of them are due for replacements and want to go bigger. My wife now wants fake tits and I did agree I'll go with whatever makes her happy, and while I'll agree they look good in a tight v-neck t-shirt, I'm not a fan and told her I prefer not grabbing things that feel like stress balls. I like her just the way she is.

Not sure why I threw that out there, other than I guess it relates to altering your body to conform.

Circumcision should be done only if the patient is old enough to consent and if there is a medical problem earlier on it should be the last remaining option

Circumsision is an outdated tradition that has no place in today's society. It is not directly comparable to female genital mutilaton as it is less extreme, but it still has detrimental effects and should not be done without medical reason to children.
That said, there are sometimes medical reasons for circumcision, such as an infected foreskin or treating some cases of phimosis.
However, the other suggested uses for it, such as preventing the spread of HIV, are statistically unsupported. The WHO ran a study on this which was methodically flawed. The circumcised group were given a sex-ed class and free condoms, as well as being recommended to practise abstinence, whereas the control group were given no such information.
