Well the term "suicide" does mean a successful suicide, so the stats are entirely accurate. Otherwise they would be stats on "attempted suicide".

No, not really. Women have a bit of a suicide problem (about 25% of the suicide problem that men have) and a much bigger attention-seeking problem.

Of course it should be little surprise that the two sexes behave in the way that they do. When women attention-seek (aka "attempted suicide") it works like a treat: they are smothered with care, sympathy and support. So it's only natural that women learn to indulge in that behaviour so often, it gets them everything they want and need.

Whereas for men, in general, no one cares and no help is coming. So men struggle on as best they can, for as long as they can. Then they take what they see as the only way out.

It always has to be about women for them, that's how you know that in reality they don't give a flying fuck about men, the moment you mention men's issues they just dismiss it like they're doing here. As most of us will now know it's pretty much not allowed to even publicly discuss men's issues within universities and so on either which is why I will always get increasingly pissed off with the people who either feign ignorance or just have their heads in a bubble when it comes to these sorts of people.

Yeah, pretty standard for trollx, but at least this bullshit is clear and obvious. There's another awful concept here that bothers me even more because it's more subtle and I've seen it in many not so radical subs and even heard in real life sadly:

Basically the concept that society looks down on femininity. Now, if you're a woman who faces sexism such as what she describes (or even a man who gets shit for being "effeminate"; I've been there, puberty came a bit late for me) this definitely sounds plausible. Problem is, there's a giant pink elephant in the room: femininity is cherished in women and looked down upon in men. Viceversa with masculinity. "You [...] like a woman" is an insult for men, "You [...] like a man" is an insult for women. Why? Because society looks down on people who go against gender roles. I'm sorry, I don't have proof or citations, this just seems obvious to me. I was introduced to the idea of equality when I was very young and I took it to heart. I just want gender roles gone for everyone, as much and as soon as possible, and this philosophy that in every situation women must be the oppressed gender, and men privileged just holds everyone back IMO.

Same for the idea that homophobia and transphobia come from society's hate of femininity. I wonder how lesbians and transmen would fit into this model.

No, it means men commit suicide in much greater numbers. It's been estimated that 95% of recorded attempted suicides are not attempted suicides, but are in a separate 'cry for help' category.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of real attempted suicides to see how they are divided between the sexes. We may well see that men continue to attempt to kill ourselves at a much greater rate.

Using u/rick-p 's data if 10 men and 10 women attempt suicide each day, men are "successful" 8 times, women "succeed" twice, therefore men commit suicide 4X more frequently and women are "unsuccessful" 4X more often. Change unsuccessful to attempt and it gives the impression that women try to kill themselves far more often than men but in reality each sex attempts suicide at the same rate it's just that men complete the attempt far more often.

Interesting how they rely only on reported data.

No consideration for why the report rates might vary, or that there might be a significant non report rate for certain groups.

They're quick to remember non report rates for sexual assault though.

Also, since mere ideation is sometimes counted as an attempt, how useful is attempt data?

Moreover when you look at those who attempt suicide, 11% of male suicide attempts results in suicide, whereas only 1.1% of female attempts do.

So combining attempts/success into a ratio means men are 10 times more likely to die from a suicide attempt.

Friendly reminder that "women attempt suicide more often" is based on one number, from one time period, published by CDC, where any woman visiting hospital with any self-injury was counted as "suicide attempt", and one survey asking if a person had "considered" taking their own life.

"Women attempt suicide more often than men" - is a myth in its entirety, and always was.
