I think I read the same in a climate sub.

Their man argument is: both partner works, woman comes home and still do chores and don't rest, so it's biased against women.

My take: 3 out of 4 men are homeless. A homeless person is most affected by heat, be it those 3 or the 1 woman. Men (and women) working in construction, fishing, labour demanding jobs, are more affected too. These people have higher chances of heat stroke and suffering compared to even a woman who's a single mother and managing the house the entire day (only from perspective of how heat can impact a person). Also most men aren't couch potatoes, that's the exception. Most men do chores maybe in less amount due to the fact that women work smaller shifts to look after children and by the extention the house while they prefer men with more income, which comes with more amount of labour in jobs(mental or physical).

Men work more outside jobs and labor intensive jobs where they'll be in the heat, what a completely asinine take. But I guess a woman feeling a little uncomfortable sitting in the shade or in a building with a subpar AC is more tragic than a man dying of heatstroke working his outdoor blue collar job.

Normally I actually like BBC as general news source, but it's so frustrating seeing articles like this which are clearly written with the approach of 1) Have your agenda/narrative bias you want to push, 2) write literally whatever you can come up with to try to push it. Real journalism should be at least "hey let's look at both sides of this and see where the truth lies in this nuanced world we live in."

Sadly this article reached absurdity almost immediately. For instance, this part:

Our socioeconomic circumstances – such as being lower paid or the most likely caregiver to loved ones – can have an even greater impact on how well we are able to look after ourselves in hot weather, she said.

Age is another factor. The older you are, the more vulnerable you are to heat – and since women live longer on average than men, we are more at risk of health impacts, Dr Pinho-Gomes explained

Elderly people are also more susceptible to dementia, which can limit the ability to recognise thirst, or conditions that require diuretics, used to lower blood pressure – both of which can further expose you to heat stress, she said.

Absolutely incredible this can be published. A total absence of information linking why or how "being lower paid" (ahem, won't touch this) or being a caregiver for a loved one would impact how one tolerates a heat wave. Not even a sentence, we're just supposed to take that as given.

Is the author ignorant or malicious? Just think two seconds about a female HR assistant earning 22 euro/hour versus construction worker (or replace with essentially any manual or trade work), outside under the sun but earning 25 euros or more. It's obvious who is *actually* the one who will suffer and face more risks during a heat wave. And the pay is not even relevant, unless you want to reeeeeeally reach for it and say for example the higher earner will be able to afford more fans or an AC unit X times faster because of higher wages...

Yet the author out does herself with the next line, saying women are more vulnerable because elderly people tolerate heat worse, and MEN ARE ALREADY DEAD so it's the people who are alive (ie women) who are suffering from the heat. Those damn men and their privilege even in death!

Women is just a complaining machine. It complains no matter what it is doing. Turned off, still complaining. Turned on, still complaining. Neglected, still complaining. Maintained, still complaining. Which confirms that complaining is just background noise. If it is complaining then it is doing fine and there is no issues nor complaining machine is having any problems of any kind. Just carry on like usual.
