At 14 in the current year...she wss well aware what she was doing was both wrong and something the man will never get away from. Poor guy will never be the same and you just know 25% or more will just think he "got away with it" despite the evidence and verdict. That's the real tragedy.

Stop blaming society stop blaming social constructs stop blaming the current climate and start blaming the individual and their choices. When you blame it on things other then the individual then you give power to what you are blaming things on. Why should i change, why should i stop my behavior when its not my fault but the fault of society.

I can agree not taking it too far. Dont make threats against individuals and dont go too far but call them out for their actions.

If you take an action and lie and those lies and actions hurt and or ruin the life of another person then YOU are at fault and YOU need to be called out.

We live in a time where no action is the fault of the individual but a fault of society and this is wrong. This is just deflecting and it helps no one.

No, it is not in danger. We SHOULD blame a 14 year old for intentionally ruining a man's life, because at 14 I was more than mature enough to know how much I would fuck up a person's life by accusing them of raping me.

I have a deep question for you.

How are we going to instill in young women and teenage girls a sense of basic respect and empathy for boys and men when they're never held accountable for grevious, harmful actions against them? I'm not just talking False Accusations, but general abuse and bullying.

Because, based on these patterns, the people important to these females are certainly failing in their job of enforcing boundaries and etiquette. Yet, they'd have no qualms subjecting their sons and boys in general to the doctrine of "Respect all women and girls no matter what" without batting an eye.

Somebody needs to put their foot down. I grow tired of seeing the same old stories with women of all ages harming men and NEVER SUFFERING THE APPROPRIATE CONSEQUENCES THAT A MAN WOULD IF THE GENDERS WERE FLIPPED!

You want to rush to the defense of this girl? Go ahead. Keep in mind, though, similar defenses have already been made on her behalf. You're just adding to it.

This sub operates under the messy, confusing, confounding, contradictory, and insanity of anonymity. Maybe going after a 14 year old girl isn't the brightest idea, but any legal repercussions for her remains none existent. Besides avoiding the fact that she didn't make a stupid choice such as lying by omission to avoid punishment, no she operated maliciously and broke the "golden rule." Any attack on her character here will remain as words on the internet and no true punishment will truly come, while a man's reputation is tarnished.

Though I can agree there are less than humble actors that rumble around in this sub, it doesn't manifest itself in the more then often satirical and irreverent aspect you seem to have criticized.

I was falsely accused of rape by a 15 year old girl when I was in highschool just so she could get out of being grounded by her father for coming home pass curfew (which was her idea to stay out late), I never even had sex in high school. I was a virgin until I was 20. I really like that girl too. I'd bring her flowers, write her poems, drive her everywhere she wanted to go. I treated her like a princess, and she just threw me away in the trash one night for no reason other than she could.

I got pulled out of class by the police the next day. It took less than 20 minutes for her to admit she was lying. At 15, this was the second time she had actually done something like that, and it wouldn't be the last. She ended up doing it again a few years later to somebody else.

I am furious at the system that allows/encourages this to happen...but damnit, she was a fucking bitch, and she deserves to be called as such.

You can have it both ways. Hate on system, and the person. They are not mutually exclusive, nor should they be!

I don't see an overwhelming call in the thread for the girl to be charged as an adult.

But sure, if there is adequate evidence that the accuser lied, she should be charged as a juvenile.

If proved, this is a serious intentional crime she may have committed, one which could have (or even did if he was arrested) resulted in the man being falsely imprisoned (a form of physical violence).

In my opinion, children should be charged and sentenced as juveniles in accordance with the body of law in that area. In addition, I believe that if convicted, juveniles should be universally on a specialized form of probation. Once they turn 19, they must appear before a court and demonstrate that they have developed into a fairly decent behaving adult. If they have not matured appropriately, or refuse to appear, then their conviction as a minor should be unsealed and should be made public. Otherwise, those records stay sealed.

I'm a UK secondary school (high school) teacher. I work at a mixed school with many teenagers. At 14, kids know what they're doing. I've had many a chat with a student about misbehaviour. They are well aware that what they are doing is wrong. 14 can and should be held responsible for their actions. If not now, when? Just look at the medical (surgeon) student who stabbed his boyfriend - she's clearly never had to accept blame for her actions so far and almost certainly never will. Next time she'll kill someone instead of just injuring them. She'll be out after that in only a few years.

We need to hold people accountable from a younger age, if anything. Make people aware of the consequences of their actions.

Still makes me think of the argument that "girls mature faster than boys" yet are less accountable.

One thing you're missing. EVERYONE has to be taught there's consequences to every action. Doesn't matter if the subject is trivial or life altering.

For example, women who ruined men's life through divorce law. We can blame the system and politics that had allowed that to happen. But, at the same time, those women have every freedom to not abuse those power.

Let's say our law give men the right to take away kids from their mom. If a man does it, ruining his kids' and his ex's life, is he not held responsible for his actions just because it was our legal system that gave him the power to do that?

What if I'm very good with business laws' loopholes and managed to screw you over in a business partnership, bankrupting your family with a debt you can't pay back in 2 lifetime, resulting in your wife's suicide. Do you think I'm responsible or would you hold capitalism responsible?

It's time for everyone to step up and learn for every action there are consequences which the actor will be held accountable.

The understanding of a 14 year old is still somewhat limited. They understand a lot, in theory, but they have no experience in the real world and thus lack meaningful perspective on things; they cannot really judge importance of things for themselves.

This is not an excuse. I don't care about what immoral actions society enables. At the end of day, making false accusations flies in the face of any basic understanding of morality. You don't need "real-life" experience for this - only a sense of empathy, which at that age she ought to have. She is most likely very aware that what she did was wrong - she just didn't care. And as cynical as it sounds, it won't be until the wider society rightfully demonizes such actions would anything change.

Keep in mind that sometimes even our "opponents" aren't the bad guys. They're just on the wrong side because they have the wrong beliefs. Everything from early schooling, to degree programs and research centers and even commercials on TV promotes this false narrative; in this day and age it's easy to be on the wrong side of almost anything. Unless you care about something, most people don't tend to spend a lot of effort making sure they know the truth. That is key. Remember delusion is just a fact of human existence. Let's fight that (without hate), not other people.

She used that accusation for a reason, because she knew it would achieve something. You think it was just an accident? that she was thinking of accusing him of stealing her lunch money but for some random reason switched to rape/sexual assault? No, she knew this accusation held weight, and used it.

People need to be held accountable for what they do. A 14 year old that murders somebody in cold blood doesn't get off, and we don't ignore their actions and solely focus on environment and all that.

We can expand the discussion to how it all applies, and how society needs to change to reduce these issues. But ultimately, you are in control of what you do. No one else, you are not being mind controlled by somebody else. Unless you get threatened to do so, which there was a story about a few years ago; Problem with her was that she took many years to finally come clean, while an innocent man rotted in prison in place of the actual person who did it.

The sub isn't in danger - your hope for the sub, the direction you think is the best outcome is what is in danger.

And in very large part I tend to agree with the direction you are aiming for. But this sub sees more than its fair share of trolls, and has people of all ages. Teenagers and Twenty-somethings are still mastering their voices (shit, I am almost 50 and have mastered mine) and finding out who they are. It is, as unfortunate as you or I may believe it to be, natural for young men to rail against every minor injustice they encounter.
