So I got into a back-and-forth with someone over on TBP, and I'm curious to see what other RP minded individuals think about the subject.

My opinion is that when two people have sex, both the man and the woman are acknowledging the possibility that, even with the use of protection, something could go wrong and a pregnancy can occur. I see where people are coming from when they say that it's not fair that the woman gets the final say on whether to have the child or not, but I believe that's a risk both parties need to be honest with themselves about and acknowledge before they choose to have the sex in the first place. It doesn't matter if the man doesn't want a child. He chose to have sex with a woman. Sex is intended to create children. The fact that we live in a time when we can have sex for pleasure thanks to contraception is awesome, but we need to acknowledge that there is always a possibility that something can go wrong, despite the best intentions. There is no such thing as risk-free sex. Pregnancy is always a risk, every single time.

The concept of financial abortion, meaning that men should be able to "wash their hands" of a pregnancy and walk away without any legal or financial obligation to the child is very selfish to me. Child support isn't for the mother, it's for the child, who the man had an equal part in creating by choosing to have sex with the woman. To me, it's a matter of personal responsibility. When you create life, even if you didn't mean to, you are responsible for it.
