My SO. He's one of those people that's good at everything he tries, even my Nazi dad calls him one of the good ones. And despite that he still manages to be sweet and humble and helpful when I struggle. He knows he is my moral compass and has never once let me down on that front. I could learn from him for a hundred years and still never be nearly as kind and intelligent of a person as he is. He is truely a gentleman and a scholar.

I'm gonna cheat and choose two.

One is my husband. I say this all the time: he is the nicest person I know. And I don't mean "nice" like he lets himself be stomped on and taken advantage of. He is a bottomless well of kindness and benevolence toward the people he knows (and sometimes people he doesn't know.) I also admire his ability to stick to it when he decides to learn something new or solve a problem. I get discouraged easily with that kind of thing so that's something in him I really try to emulate.

Second is my youngest brother, who is incredibly smart, hard-working and self-motivated. He does what he wants 100% of the time and has little concern for what anyone thinks about it. He never went to college even though he's super smart and mathematically inclined. The day after he graduated high school he threw all his stuff in his truck and went to Colorado to work on a ranch for two years, just because that's what he felt like doing. Then he came back and got a job doing carpentry work at a construction company, and within a few years was overseeing whole construction projects. He owned his own home by the time he was 25, and now 10 years later he has properties and investments all over the western half of the state and is about to start his own company. He's the definition of a self-made man (we did not come from money) and all his success has been entirely on his own terms. In a lot of ways he's my opposite, but I really admire him.

Has to be my mum. I've talked about her a few times before. She started with nothing, worked her way up in the world, is very intelligent and ambitious, and a very strong person mentally and emotionally. I've always looked up to her ever since I was a kid and always will.

Mr. Arthur and my father. Mr. Arthur because he has always made me want to be a better person. Even before we started dating, when we were just work friends, when I would be tempted to blow off a nonproliferation class or whatever, there would be a voice in the back of my head: "Mr. Arthur would be disappointed if you blew it off." His good opinion is the most important thing in my life, and I would do anything, save go against my own principles, to keep it.

My father because he has had a legit difficult life, partly circumstantial, partly his own fault, and he struggled for decades against his own nature to successfully provide for his wife and children. He is one of the three smartest people I have ever known, and an incredibly talented artist (who is now getting the recognition he deserves, and it's about time). He is unnervingly successful at anything he decides to give a damn about. Living with him as a young girl was not the easiest thing I've ever done, but I am intensely grateful for it; every one of his downsides had - and has - a concomitant upside, and the upsides were and are more than worth it. I would not be where I am today if some other dude had been my father.

Mr. Arthur and my dad get along very very well, and Mr. Arthur is, I think, the only person besides my mother, my great-uncle, and the VA counselor with whom my father has discussed his experience in Vietnam.

I will pick my father, he had always been very understanding, protective, caring and patient with me. He is a reliable person who never complains about anything, I am thankful that he was in my life and I am thankful I was raised by him.

A professor I had back when I was studying English Lit. Legit one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. Just such a breadth of knowledge and all of it in-depth. She was as at home discussing German mythology as she was describing the informal gold-economy of World of Warcraft. I loved her classes.

In fact, during that time I was in a class of almost all women and all of them were amazing people. Smart, intellectually curious, passionate, I loved hanging out with them. There was one girl in particular who I admired intensely. She was very passionate about charity work for Tibet, she never let my obvious depression and introversion stop her from spending time with me and she baked fucking cookies for class.

My mom is another obvious one but we're so much alike that I often just see my own flaws reflected back at me.

My BIL. He’s been dating my sister since I was 7 and they used to take me on their dates as a chaperone so he’s more like a brother than a BIL. He is incredibly hard working, gregarious and kind. He doesn’t believe in “strangers” and can find something to laugh about in any pickle. He is a fierce protector and provider for his family but he views my sister as an equal (they did biblical headship model but have softened to a more egalitarian model now). Their relationship has been a huge guiding light for what I wanted for myself. I am happy to say he loves and respects my husband and they have gotten very close! 😍

Gonna be cliche and say my dad and eldest brother. They are cut from the same cloth.

Both are reserved but confident, strong but kind, supportive and motivating. I've yet to have any problem in my life that they can't offer good and useful advice for.

Know a woman who is a brilliant designer, market analyst and a CEO with excellent insights on the business, great social skills and overall sharp go-getter attitude. Not a close contact, but what she is doing and has accomplished is inspiring.

A teacher in high school. She had this innate ability to understand what was going on in her students' heads and tell them exactly what they needed to hear to motivate themselves to embrace that and express it. When I think of a real-life female superwoman, it's definitely her.

I don't personally know him, but I've always admired and tried to emulate Trent Reznor's work ethic and artistic merit.

He's always getting better at what he does, and he never stops (despite drug addiction, crippling depression, family, etc). I aspire to that sort of fortitude and quality in my own artistic endeavors.

Though question because among the people I know in real life, the women always work harder than the men.

For instance, my dad is an intelligent person who works a challenging job, but my mom works a job that's twice as challenging and still does everything around the house and socially. That doesn't mean I like my mom more, in fact I've always liked my distant dad more (dad dread), but objectively it's obvious who's the role model.

Another example, if you take a male B-student and a female B-student. The male B-student is just a student. The female B-student is in several committees, volunteers, has a job, works out, etc. Men always do less.

My dad!! He's so wonderful, and has taught me so much over the years. Like how to be financially conscious, how to question authority, and so on. He gave up his more lucrative job of being a landlord to pursue his dream of being a wedding photographer, and nothing has inspired me more. He prioritizes happiness and positivity over everything else.

He's over 65 and has a girlfriend. They go out dancing together, go traveling together, go biking together every day. He plays table tennis three times a week, and when his right arm started hurting him too much to play on... he switched! And then got just as good at playing with his left hand!

He's artistic (all the paintings in our old house were done either by him or my grandmother), his handwriting is beautiful, and the fact that he can sometimes stay up all night playing dorky online games on the internet is so fucking relatable.

I love my dad!

My mom, she snuck off and abandoned my dad n family when I was a kid. She came back after a while but wasn't let back in.

I've used and dumped every girl I've ever been with in a similar way I guess.

Of the opposite sex? Either my mom or my girlfriend.

My mom is very very calm and loving, and is always looking to better herself, which I admire. She is also very compassionate. She is almost more like a friend to me than a mom now, especially as I have grown up and lived on my own. Between my two parents, my personality was always a lot more like my mom's, in that I tend to be quiet and I never ever get mad (and well, if I am mad, someone really really fucked up badly).

As far as my girlfriend, she is just so goofy, nerdy, smart, and talented. And really sweet. I have never met someone who cares about those around her as much as she does. And when she cares, she will go to the moon and back for you, be it for a friend, coworkers, or well, me. Both of us are still quite young, but she has already had an impressive amount of success in her career (is now the top HR person at her company at 21), and I wouldn't be surprised if she succeeds more than she ever thought she would. She has always been there for me through even my worst moments, and I've grown so much since we met. She is also the reason I have embraced my derp side. It's why I give zero fucks now, and why I am comfortable in my own skin. That is something that would be the case whether I am with her or not.

My dad. He passed away 9 years ago, so I can't really describe our relationship, but he was one of the few people I met who had some sort of natural authority. He knew how to balance doing his own thing and looking after his family. He was smart, he raised me to always gather the facts and think for myself (too many parents try to force their own beliefs onto their children). He was very strict, but never unreasonable. Everyone who knew him respected him, even if they couldn't stand him.

My (half)brother too, for pretty much the same reason.

I respect and admire them, but I most definitely don't aspire to be like them in any way besides being smart and being a well rounded/wholesome person.

My best friend. She is very wise and very thoughtful, often lending insights into life that I wouldn't have been able to reach on my own. She's always been there for me, and I for her. Really sweet person, a bit of an artist hippie.

A friend of mine who's blog I used to read, it was purple pill leaning red but more about music than life advice. We come from eerily similar backgrounds and life experiences and he has been a hugely motivating factor in my self improvement. He's the big brother I never had, and a role model for redpill success (6 figure income in a cool field, started dating a hot azn 18 year old at like 35).
