I’m slightly better looking and a lot more confident than I was in my teens and I hope this would’ve been the case if I’d never stumbled across an article by a Croatian “PUA” ridiculously called Badboy.

Eager to rubbish this idiot I read the whole thing sharpening my knife, lips pursed to mock. But it wasn’t funny. In fact it was one of the most serious things I’d read. The bits on body language - really, could they work? It was essentially the opposite of what I did. Maybe this can explain why girls liked me, told me I was good looking but clearly never found me attractive?

And it did. It lead me to Strauss’ The Game which was breathtaking back then. I was the archetypal AFC (Average Frustrated Chump - pretty much synonymous with nice guy and beta). Basically my looks and humour were the ONLY things I got right. Being keen is a BAD thing? Women like negs? Wtf? Indifference is attractive - even more wtf?! Always being polite, humble and apologising when necessary are attraction killers!? Thanks Mam.

I had no idea I was this unattractive? I had no idea what was unattractive! So I fused elements of my “natural” personality with things I was told were attractive. I added cocky to my funny. Physically i took up a lot of space at all times. I acted relaxed even when I wasn’t. And due to the looks, dress and likability being there anyway - I almost literally became attractive overnight.

It wasn’t all superficial or maybe none of it was. Maybe it was stuff my fearful parents coached out of me. But these days I’m socially fearless, I do lift as well and thoroughly enjoy my social interactions.

But the downside is I doubt the legitimacy of my relationships. Game and trp confirmed what my young life hinted at; “If you don’t conform to at least SOME alpha archetypes you won’t have a first love, won’t have romance and won’t have a relationship.”

I’m not proud of learning about attraction but it’s a lot better than being lonely, sexually frustrated with no clue as to why?

But it is does kill notions of star-crossed lovers and definitely stops you taking romantic attention personally.
