Alright, it’s time to have a serious discussion. We often receive complaints regarding the quality of posts and comments on this sub. Which is great – when complaints are accompanied by reports. As it stands, users are perfectly happy to whine and moan about the content, but don’t bother to click a few buttons to make sure mods are aware of the issue.

If you want the quality on the sub to change, you are the ones who have to do something. There’s a deal when it comes to subs: Mods will come in and be the meanies who police things that are against the rules. And users, who want the subreddit to not become a cesspool, have to report comments/posts that violate said rules.

Now, for the last several weeks, we mods have been keeping track of posts which have garnered complaints, and tabulating how quickly (if ever) we receive reports. The results? You guys have utterly failed to keep to your end of the bargain. Quite frankly, it’s somewhat pathetic. The quality of the sub is going to degrade if you guys don't report rule violations.

But Mods! I hear you cry. You haven’t even given us examples!

Why, you’re right, random user who likes to complain about anecdotal evidence being invalid and random user who likes to complain. So let’s dive into that, shall we?

Here are some of the comments we got:

Mods, what exactly is a post like this supposed to achieve. Why is he asking this of women? Any good-faith responses from females are just inviting a handwave of "It's not sex with a twenty year old, so it's worthless" from the incels forum.

And:

Yup this is incel/bitter beta bitch bait

And numerous other responses, all complaining that the post is “bait” and lacks good faith. Guess how many reports this post received? ZERO. All these people, complaining that the post shouldn’t be up in the sub, but NONE OF THEM BOTHERED TO CLICK A DAMN BUTTON.

Guys. This is simple stuff. I’m getting embarrassed for you. This is you.

Yes, this post has now been locked and removed. But when it was first posted, we received all of these complaints:

This is an objective shitpost and thinly veiled woe-is-me femcel content which is against the rules of PPD.

And:

So once again you admit you aren't doing a CMV but another femcel shit post. And yes you are very much complaining here.

And:

She's seriously such a bad troll...

It took over two hours (well after all the whining took place by multiple users) for a SINGLE REPORT to be made. The ONLY report made.

Guess how many reports? I’m pretty sure you can figure it out by now. One person reported this, despite the bitching in the comments.

Honestly, I could keep going. That's how many of these there are.

Oh, and don’t think is restricted just to posts. Oh, no. You guys also fail on reporting comments that break the rules, then whine when you’re moderated because we let someone be a meanie-head to you. Guess what? NONE OF YOU ARE REPORTING THOSE COMMENTS.

Are you seeing a theme now? I hope so.

For instance:

Nope. I think it's funny that posts calling me a slut stay up but telling a person who can't provide sources and thinks half a study is truthful but the other half is based on lies might be better off in a place where he won't get laughed at for such a ridiculous claim is out of line. Bang up job. But that's just me.

This user complained that we allowed a comment calling her a slut to stay up. No comment calling her a slut was reported, and the user also failed to message us in modmail to identify the supposed post that called her a slut.

I’m going to level with you here: without you reporting, this kind of stuff is going to stay up. The mods here don’t have time to review every single comment. If you think a comment violates the rules, report it. If you feel it’s been up too long and is still there, message us.

REPORTING

Reporting is entirely anonymous. We cannot tell who reported a post. There’s no “winning” by not reporting someone being a dick. It doesn’t make you badass, it makes you an idiot. And later, it will make you look even more like an idiot when you start complaining that you were modded for a rules violation but someone else at some other time wasn’t – even though you didn’t bother to report it. Shame.

In response to these complaints, TGP worked incredibly hard to create filters to prevent posts that are irrelevant from getting onto the front page. Of course, because many of you love drama more than life, you started complaining about that, too:

This new hyper moding is boring.

And

Threads having to be approved by mods is boring.

Guys. This is getting ridiculous. We volunteered to do our part and have been trying hard to do so. But you need to do your part. Tell us what you want from us. But stop bitching about everything and doing nothing.

Please use this thread to apologise to the mod team and tell us how great we are, what an awesome job we do and otherwise show your contrition and a willingness to be better citizens of PPD in future.

Or, as usual, do your whole bitching about everything thing because, why not?
