If you have sex outside of your relationship before ending your relationship it's cheating, full stop, end of story. Exception for weirdos in poly or open relationships I guess.

She shouldn't be having sex with anyone until she informs the man she is no longer interested in a relationship with him. After she does that, she could go out and have sex in the next hour and it wouldn't be cheating. If she had had sex in that previous hour before she had told him, then it would be cheating.

It's not the same as interviewing for a new job when you still have the old job. It would be the same as PERFORMING a new job when you still have the old job. A relationship is transactional. You agree to do these things for this person, and ONLY this person, and in return you get things back. If you start doing things for another person, you've broken your contract.

Interviewing for another job while still working at your old job would be the same as having an acquaintance you have developed feelings for. Once you act on those feelings, it's cheating. Once you act on those feelings, you've performed a new job and have broken your contract.

Here is where I stand on this: if my wife should find herself in front of a man she is determined to fuck, I expect at least a phone call stating we are done. Because I've clearly told her that cheating is an immediate deal breaker, and that means if she's literally decided to have sex with someone else, then we are done. So to me, there is no overlap. The moment it goes from "thinking about it" to "doing it" cheating has occurred.

You're thinking entirely in terms of finding a new partner and replacing an old partner. What about having sex with (or dating) a new person without planning on jumping ship? That's the most obvious case of cheating.

Cheating is a word that describes involvement with a new partner in a way that violates the agreement they have with their current partner. This behavior predates the term, and the term was coined/repurposed specifically to describe this behavior.

By saying violating an agreement with a current partner isn't really cheating, you're saying this word doesn't describe the behavior it was employed to describe.

When a woman in a relationship decides to date a new man, she's not really cheating. She's simply ending the old relationship and beginning a new one.

I dunno bout that. Maybe she wants the perks of both relationships - the stability provided by BetaBux and the tingles-generating instability provided by Chad.

In that case, she's not really ending the first relationship. She's committing fraud by continuing to knowingly and intentionally reap the rewards of the first relationship by way of deception. Hence, cheating.

this is an odd one. if you go on a date with someone else while in a monogamous relationship, that's still breaking the commitment of the relationship. it might not be as severe as sexual cheating, but it's still infidelity.

what if, instead of entering into a new relationship, she's just sleeping with other people with the intention of staying in her current relationship and there hasn't been an agreement between the couple for this to happen, Surely that's cheating?

I think it depends on how one defines cheating, although from a religious perspective, they might see it as "committing adultery in your heart," which would be viewed as just as bad as actually doing it. But that's in the case of an actual marriage where someone has taken a vow for life.

In the case of going steady or boyfriend/girlfriend relationships without actually being married or living together, then a case could made that it's not actually "cheating," since there's no official vow or promise.

Cheating is dishonesty, breaking the agreed rules. It's almost nothing to do with sex. You can cheat without sex, and sex without cheating. Sexual relationships don't have to be binary. Sex isn't some magical activity that holds spiritual significance, it's just animals doing what biology says feels good. I fuck other people and I'm married, and I'm not cheating.
