Too true. I come a morbidly obese mom and her entire family are morbidly obese as is my sister. I'm talking fat over the shoes fat, gout based on diet fat, all the problems that come with it.

When I was 18 I decided I wouldn't live like that. I became a fitness instructor for extra cash. Now i'm in my 40s and fuck a dad bod. I'm 165lbs, lean, and fit.

Yes it sucks sometimes to wake up at 5am in a hotel and hit the gym to make 730 meetings but whatever. I refuse to be anything other than totally fit.

It's funny how my family "has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, blah blah" and I don't.

Guy here, but I thought this way for awhile. And then I lost 30 pounds in 3 months just by not drinking soda. I wasn't even a heavy soda drinker, but only drinking water brought me from 280 to 250. I slept better too.

I've lost over 70lbs by cutting out sugar and carbohydrates...zero exercise, no counting calories, eating as much as I want. Exercise is overrated for weight loss. Get healthy and you will feel like being active...if you feel like it. Grossly obese people are sugar addicts.

It's not even about exercise as much as it is about calories in, and restraint/control in what and how much you eat. You cant out run a bad diet. Eat 6k calories and run an hour per day and you'll still probably be fat.

I used to be really thin. I quit smoking and gained some weight. I started working out pretty hard and gained some muscle. I put on about fifty pounds but it was in all the right places and I looked and felt amazing. Kept that for about five years, then I got tired. I stopped working out and started eating. I gained another thirty and now, after three years, I haven’t lost it. I’m disgusted and miserable, but fuck I’m lazy! I tell myself every day that I’m gonna eat better and get some exercise, but I can’t get my fat ass off the sofa.

I will be 53 at the end of October....I’ve promised myself twenty pounds off by my birthday.

It's not that hard... I was like 220 a bit ago. Took in less calories than I needed on a daily basis. Calculated what my limit was for 1lb a week loss and 2lb a week loss. Then I made sure to stay under or go over a bit if I worked out that day. Slowly working my way down to 170 ish. Half way there.

there is a point where genetics do play a role. i come from a family of holocaust survivors, you can imagine how thin we all are. BUT, contrary to how we look, we all eat like animals, like it‘s our last meal. we wont stop until he plates and everything prepared is empty. did we cook too much? more like we can compensate for our simplified englisb breakfast.

due to the holocaust, our family name became rare. but now with us, the younger generations, as we‘re marrying into other families, our crazy eating habits become more and more common knowledge around town. and as said, we dont get fat. not even chubby, nothing. we are all very thin people and that includes some of us being depressed at times and eating a kg of chocolate a day for weeks and no real workout. we all work with our heads only, not even the young men do anything with their bodies.

all this said, we may not be able to get fat, but we cant get ripped either. oh well.

Genes don't mean shit past a certain point, it only effects how easy it is to lose weight (if your metabolism is naturally incredible then you'll have an easy time compared to someone who wasn't as lucky

He's not right. There are diseases that make it incredibly hard to lose weight such as diabetes or an over active thyroid. Also anti psychotics as well as maybe other medications I don't know about that can make you really hungry which would also increase the difficulty setting. While still technically possible to maintain a healthy weight, its certainly fair to say that people who are heavy because of those reasons are not at fault.

He's also not right a second time, you lose way more energy just existing than you do exercising, you can't outrun a bad diet (inb4 nitpickers pointing out body builders and marathon runners can eat 5k calories a day, just shut up), basically if you want to lose weight don't worry about exercising just eat less. That being said there are 10k benefits to exercising, one of which is being naturally happier, but it really doesn't help with weight loss much.
