Sure, there was a time when men would open doors as a “Oh, you need a man to open this door for you,” and surely some men still do that, and that’s gross. But I open the door for anyone if it seems they could use the help. Reminds of when I was in college, a friend and I were studying at the library, and were just coming back from a snack break. My friend and I and two women were walking towards the library doors, the two women slightly ahead of us. They each had their hands full with food takeout containers, so when one tried to figure out if she could open the door, I just stepped behind her and opened the door for her. Seemed better than letting her drop her food. She looks at me, looks at her friend, then smiled and says, “We just talked about this in our women’s studies class, haha!” She and her friend walked through the door as I held it. My friend and I locked eyes. Then I turned towards the two women now well into the library and called to them, “You’re welcome!” They never did say thank you. I totally get women not digging “chivalry,” or helping a woman because she’s a woman. But sometimes people need help, and decent people help other people when they need it.

ONLY open doors for the women immediately in your life. Wife, mom, sister, daughters, etc. Would qualify this by saying that extends to the elderly and infirm. They're the only ones who could possibly deserve it. We have to end this notion that being a random with a vagina should confer some sort of privilege. There are plenty of simps out there. I grew up being told it was a polite gesture ... it did happened to me once tough back in college, 10-15 minutes before class began I got to the door, openeded it while looking at my phone and listening to music but I knew someone was right behind me, I assumed it was a classmate so by reflex I held it opened a bit longer (again, still looking at my phone, music blaring in my headphones ), and the door gets yanked of my hand violently. I’m a little shook I tought someone fell and slammed in the door and when I turn around there’s this little mongrel looking mad little women red as a cherry screaming in rage at me, can’t hear a thing and I’m super confused. I remove my headset and I hear her screaming at the top of her lungs that she doesn’t need a man to open a door for her..... she was PISSED . Before power assists and good balancing opening a door could be a hassle (weird to think of now).

Doors would be "balanced" to swing toward the closed position.

A heavy door balanced this way could take a fair amount of force to open, thus was born the polite act of doing it for someone else.

Bro, I grew up holding the door for literally everyone, and still do the same now. I was taught if someone’s walking inside, and your about to enter first, then hold the door open.
