I have friends who are a couple 33/m and 25/f in the United States with no kids. They've been together for five years and living together for three. The guy is red pill-aware, but he's relationship- and family-minded, and he's not interested in spinning plates. However, he also objects to getting married because of the one-sided legal implications. This has become a point of contention because the woman feels like he's not really committing unless they get married.
Everything that this guy has done points towards him being very committed to her for the long run. He works hard to provide them with a home (he's self-made and makes just under six figures in a rural area in the south), takes care of virtually all of the bills and has helped to put her through school. He works full-time, and she works part-time while taking classes. He treats her like a queen, but he doesn't take any crap off of her either, and she's absolutely smitten. Overall, they are a wonderful couple, and they have a healthy sex life.
I'd like to hear thoughts from the women here and what you think of my own advice. My advice to him was to figure out the exact, specific issues that she has with not getting married and try to come to agreeable solutions based on those specific issues. For example, if she was worried that she wouldn't be provided for if he was to get his by a bus, then he could see what she thought about him getting term life insurance with her as the benefactor, etc. That's just one example, but you get my point.
Edit: He specifically asked for my advice. I'm not looking to share the responses here with him. I'm primarily interested to know what the women here think of this scenario and the importance of marriage specifically vs. commitment otherwise.
Edit 2: I talked to my friend again, and since it's come up in a few responses here, I'll offer this: He has no problem with calling her his wife, having a ceremony, having her wear his ring, being publicly known as her husband, etc. The single hang-up he has about it is that people can't give up the right to alimony in a pre-nup in the state he's in. This puts him in a situation where she could file for divorce for any reason (or no reason), and he would be placed in a situation to financially support her indefinitely.

This is tough for men, and something they will face over and over.
Most women want marriage (I know, I know, some women don't) at some point during their cohabitation. A man who is against marriage but wants the fruits of playing house is going to end up in this situation again and again.
A man can say until he is blue in the face I am not going to marry you ever, and she hears blah blah blah I will marry you if you show me how awesome you are.
My brother-in-law dated a girl for a few years in college. He said directly to her that the relationship wasn't going anywhere. He said that he liked her but only planned on dating her while he was living there (in that state). Graduation comes, and she flips her shit that he doesn't propose. She refused to take him seriously, and she paid for that.
He never wants to get married. His current LTR is a live-in (5 years now). She wants marriage and kids. He does not. This is eventually going to implode. tick tick tick
TRP is very anti-marriage, and I get that. I think a man, however, will have a hard time finding a quality woman who will 100% heart and soul buy into lifelong cohabitation. I see this covert contract thing popping up again and again--with her running to her friends and her friends reassuring her that he is just afraid to commit now, but that she will win him over barf

This is a logical fallacy. He is not "against" marriage. She is not high quality enough to warrant a marriage to him.
Every one and every thing in this world has a price.
Sociosexual relations are a game of economics. For every straight man, there exists a straight woman that would inspire him to get married. Nobody is exempt from the game - not even George Clooney.
Each of Clooney's exes pale in comparison to his wife. She's breathtakingly gorgeous AND unspeakably intelligent AND charming AND has exceptionally good breeding.
Another example: Tom Brady's baby momma Bridget Moynihan (D list actress from a broken family) vs wife Gisele Bundchen (stupidly beautiful and successful and intelligent from a tight knit loving family)
If a higher quality woman walked into your friend's life, requiring him to marry her in a reasonable timeframe, he would get married.
tl;dr "He's just not that into you"

Why did they convince you not to want marriage? Why is a LTR, with cohabitation, better for you?
Marriage is about a lot more than love. It's about building a future together. Parts of a marriage are a business: you're building financial assets together.
How does he intend to structure assets? How does he intend to structure finances?
Look at TRP as this: men are artificially raising the price of marriage. You are under no obligation to pay the price they're asking.
We live in the free world and in the free dating market. If ANYTHING, the price for emotional intimacy is at a record low, and feminine, supportive women are rare. Now more than ever in human history can you leverage these assets into a higher quality relationship and subsequently, marriage.
Marriages are about solidifying personal and financial bonds. You'll never achieve peak utility without a marriage.
There is ample evidence that cohabitation results in lower happiness rates.
Additionally, true wealth creation is generated by marriage - 85% of millionaires are married.
In summary, you are statistically bound to be unhappier and poorer cohabitating.
As I detailed in a previous post, we are firmly against the government handling out "licenses". We are both firmly agnostic, and were when we met as well.
We're no fools to think we're morally or ethically superior to those who marry for religious reasons. Creating a family, building wealth, solidifying bonds, being recognized as and legally becoming a partnership are all time-tested data-driven reasons for marrying.
What specifically would you like more information on?

This is male centric advice; she wants to get married for emotional reasons.
My DH of nearly a year and I do not believe the government deigns the right to marry (or many other things it does). It should either be a religious contract or a business contract.
We extensively looked into forming a marriage contract without a marriage license. I did the legwork of seeking legal advice in states where gay marriage was not legal (at the time) to see if we could cobble together a marriage without the government.
The result was: It is absolutely and unequivocally impossible.
It would have costed approximately 25K to weave together all of the details, and at the end of the day, benefactors and hospital/healthcare decisions were still not set in stone and could still be challenged.
Tl;dr there is no "benefactor to life insurance" fix. I also am 100% certain those aren't her real worries. Her worries are her youth and beauty fading without a ring.
It always struck me as terrifically hypocritical that women expect to expost facto their living arrangements.
She has no power in the situation.
All contracts should be pre-negotiated before action is taken.
The statistics are out there -- moving in before a marriage timeline results in lower marriage rates, higher divorce rates of the subsequent marriages, and lower overall happiness ratings for the couples.
Religion really isn't a factor yet absent an invisible man in the sky, one can still have a negotiation ahead of time about what moving in together will mean.
