PSA to yall: PurplePill does not want sources. They are just more TBP circle jerk.

Last week I posted two peer reviewed sources on hypergamy from a #1 ranked sociology journal (Archives of Sexual Behavior) from like 2010 and 2012.

I was then banned and the mods stated to me, and in milder terms in their current stickied post that peer-reviewed scientific journal articles are not acceptable.

Ironically, they also make fun of TRPers who do things like quote free sources from wikipedia, psychology today, or older publications.

There is no winning here. It's just more SRS space.

I can confirm, mrsa has changed gender and occupation more than once in my dealings with it.

If the mod is a bluepiller, that's even less of a reason to go make your case on that sub.

My belief is that I shouldn't feel obligated to justify my approach to relationships to anyone. I don't feel the need to waste my time arguing with people who think settling is fine or being Mr. beta bucks is the right approach. I have enough trouble as it is helping several of my beta (in dating only) friends see the light and not mess up their careers over women drama.

Just a clarification, I haven't participated in TPB since before the creation of PPD. I've been a lurker in both subs for quite a while, and I think they both have their issues and their good points. We have one hard Blue, one who kind of dislikes both, and one who sides with Red.

If you really think I'm biased towards TBP, then I guess you have that right, but it's really not true. I agree that we have a problem with Blue Pills circlejerking in PPD, but if you've looked at my posts then you'll have seen me telling them to take it back to TBP when I see it.

Edit: I misunderstood. I no longer participate in TBP because I didn't like the circlejerk or lack of real content, so I don't think it's fair to say I am anti-TRP. I didn't think it was funny, and I wanted somewhere to have actual conversations, since neither TRP nor TBP was really a good forum to openly discuss opinions on these subjects. My main account subscribes to neither TBP nor TRP, and my mod account subscribes only to look for threads like these in both subs.

[–]alphabetmod 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd say I lean towards Red, but one thing I can say for sure is that /u/purplepilldebate is absolutely not biased. Pizza was banned for breaking the rules, plain and simple. Anyone can go back through the threads and see any asshole from both sides that is about to get banned call me biased. I've been called a TBP sock puppet and a TRP misogynist in the same day. We might not be the best mods when it comes to rules about sources and the like but we do try our best to keep it fair and unbiased.

I don't side either way. I post on Blue more often recently, but quite frankly I don't like either sub.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nailed it. I get accused of being biased both ways, which I think is kind of funny. Actually, I think it's funniest when Alphabetmod gets accused of Blue Pill bias, since he's the only one active in the Red Pill.

You did kind of let mrsamsa get under your skin though.

If you don't take it too seriously, and just use the sub to have fun, you'll have a better time.

I don't know how to do the reddit log thing...

PurplePillDebate/comments/1n158p/psychology_today_is_not_a_valid_research_journal/

Wherein the TBP community and mods agree that layman sources with peer reviewed material like Psychology Today are not valid

PurplePillDebate/comments/1qe2nf/sleeping_around_fucks_women_up_they_cant_pairbond/cdc43z1

Wherein TBPers upvote and agree that sources more than 10 years old are TOO OLD

PurplePillDebate/comments/1qhahi/mrsamsa_is_using_a_source_from_the_70s_to_claim_a/

Wherein TBPers defend someone using a non-empirical paper from the 70's to prove something empirically

And finally

PurplePillDebate/comments/1qxrsd/sources/

Wherein the mods lay down the rules for red pillers that any sources which are quality and peer reviewed (unlike the ridiculed sources from the previous examples) cannot be used. Quality new sources are necessarily paywalled by academia.

The only good sources are Blue Pill sources,

What we told him was: "If there's a workaround, post the workaround. If there's not, then don't post the article at all. I don't care if you're 'hiding' it or not; the fact is, you're asking the community to take your word that something proves your argument when they can't read it for themselves."

No one said that peer-reviewed journals weren't allowed, only that we weren't going to defend him to other users if he was going to continue posting articles that other contributors could not read.

Sorry, I commented at you earlier, but apparently y'all can't link directly outside of TRP? I don't make a habit of posting in TBP or TRP unless they're directly referencing PPD, so I'm not familiar with the rules for posting.

Only a few claim that out of our 500-something subscribers; most of the userbase legitimately can't access those articles. The mods have all been very open about our own lack of expertise in those subjects as well. I have no training in psychology/psychiatry, so I have to lean on the wisdom of the masses and on my own intuition when determining what sources aren't academically acceptable.

"sample size was only 100 so you can't see a difference"

I always love that sort of nonsense. I once had a physicist (grad student TA) argue that all stats were worthless with a sample size of 5. Because clearly it's better to just take a mean and ignore the rest...

Apparently PPD is such shit that the mods have to come in here and try to act like it isn't what it is. If there were any value in being there, TRP members wouldn't leave immediately upon seeing it.

It's like the claim from TBP every now and then that they don't understand why TRP won't respond to whatever nonsense they're spouting now. Right, 'cause when you troll all day, surprisingly you get ignored.

"I'm going to need several peer reviewed sources for the claim that women have vaginas" --every purplepilldebate thread

[–]TRP Vanguardnicethingyoucanthave 31 points32 points33 points 12 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

yep. And then when you show them peer-reviewed sources, they say that those studies are just measuring culture.

Yesterday, there was a thread that basically amounted to, "lol trpers use words like 'alpha' lol!!!" so I linked OP to that national geographic documentary which included interviews with a psychologist. "I'm not watching a reality TV show!" was the response I got. Then he said I was "withholding information"

I was once told by a blue piller that simple creatures (specifically, a spider) having sex was not necessarily an innate instinctive behavior. It could be "spider culture" I guess.

I was once told that it's possible for a man to rape a woman without any threat or force or coercion. In fact, the specific scenario was that he was tied down (by the "rape victim") and completely unable to stop her from climbing on top and putting his penis inside her. He can't stop it, but according to the blue piller, he's still raping her.

Fun times. Fun times.

[–]16 TRP VanguardTRPsubmitter 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Spider culture is incredibly misogynistic. The sheer burden of the female spider experience to birth hundreds of children at a time. Where is the child support?

It really displays the difference in how both sides approach discussions. The RP side just states facts, logic, and even opinion. But even the opinion is non-judgemental. Or if it is judgemental, it's not attacking the argument, it's just attacking some idea of sorts.

Then there is the BP side, which is snarky, sarcastic, condescending, and bitchy. It's fucking obnoxious to read. I just imagine some angry land whale SJW everytime I read one of their comments.

[–]too_long_didnt_read 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolute comedy gold. Tying themselves in so many knots to justify feminist definitions based entirely on feels, and then losing their trail of thought entirely until everyone is deemed to rape one another. Brilliant.

A TBPer claimed, "My issue is not Red Pillers being inexperienced with women, sex, and relationships, but rather these types of people claiming expertise on those things." (/r/PurplePillDebate/ comments/1qe1j0/she_doesnt_love_you/cdcbe0y)

I requested that she show specific examples of a user both lamenting his struggles with women while doling out advice claiming expertise, but she could not produce a single set of comments to support her assertion. Then s/he accused me of "[spending] more time attempting to find semantic holes, creating red herrings, and debating the tone of your opponent's argument than you do actually addressing anything I wrote."

Because I wanted xer to post actual comments and not just usernames and her obviously biased interpretations of what they said.

And that's when I stopped posting to PPD.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

LOL if I ever popped into that sub I would drive them crazy, my logic is fucking rock solid.

"[spending] more time attempting to find semantic holes, creating red herrings, and debating the tone of your opponent's argument than you do actually addressing anything I wrote."

Asking someone to back up their claim with evidence is hardly a "semantic hole" lmfao. I guess law courts are being semantic when they ask to see evidence to help them in their sentencing decisions then? LMFAO. GG bluepill fags.

No, my friend, they would drive YOU crazy.

Indeed. I had to quit- not because my logic wasn't sound, but because they don't follow the rules of discourse. It's 10-to-1 there, and they play by the rules whoever yells the loudest wins.

[–]puaSenator 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hate that shit. If TRP really was a case of the blind leading the blind, the sub would die within a month. Simply because no one would be having success, their lives would be getting worse, and they'd find absolutely no value in TRP. However, TRP is still here and growing. Why is that? It's probably because these truths actually add a lot of value to people's lives. If it was even remotely like SRS, where dumb shits are spouting out dumb shit to even dumber shits, then this sub couldn't exist.

[–]puaSenator 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually tried to have a debate with them. Wrote very long and thorough responses to a few people, only to get swarmed by people wanting sources on EVERYTHING I was saying. From the hypergamous nature of women to male disposability. Like I fucking keep a spreadsheet of scientific literature that aligns with TRP just sitting on my harddrive. Then, even when I did provide sources by wasting several minutes of my life using a website called Google.com, I'd get "Well, not ALL women are like that!" or "Some men are like that too!". Bitch, please. I'm not saying ALL women are like that. Obviously not ALL people are the same. And I'm not saying men aren't like that, but we are talking specifically about women right now.

It's worse than arguing with creationists.

[–]PizzaOnEarth 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

They actually banned good peer reviewed sources from the scientific community because they are behind quality journal's paywalls (and were supportive of TRP)

Ah, I didn't realize that providing a direct quote from a paid article was illegal, especially if you cite the source.

Also, I highly doubt that the 'internet police' would go through the trouble of trying to persecute. Especially since your account is anonymous, and in order to determine who you are/where you live, I'm fairly certain the need some kind of court permission. Again, I could be wrong, but I like to think the government is more concerned about locating child porn sites etc than they are about who copied an article.

[–]alphabetmod 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

And that's exactly why we stopped allowing sources that are behind paywalls. Not everyone there can see them and since the point of the sub is debate, allowing sources that only a fraction of the users can see is stupid. To be clear to anyone else that reads this, we banned Pizza for constantly breaking the rules of the sub. TBP mod didn't ban him, I did, for being a pain in the ass. You can say /r/purplepilldebate is worthless, you can say it's a waste of time, that's fine. One thing no one can says is that we are biased against either side. I find value in other people challenging my ideas and I'll admit when I think I'm wrong. We encourage participation from both sides as long as you can be civil about it.

[–]TRP Vanguardtheubercuber 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

Not everyone there can see them

I brought this up with Purple, but one of the reasons I stopped visiting the sub has to do with the fact that so many of the BP regulars there claim to be scientists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

Yet these same BPers somehow cannot access these studies, or even accurately read studies correctly and interpret methods and results when freely available.

I see better effort from the people who openly admit they are not scientifically literate like you and many of the blue pillers there, but pseudo-literacy is a big problem, and ONLY among blue pillers.

And the fact that you allow pseudo-literacy to come from these blue pillers claiming to be professionals shows you have bias. Especially if you explicitly ban legitimate professional sources when they do come up from a red piller, just because these fake scientists can't read it.

[–]alphabetmod -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

I saw TBP survey, and I think about 20% had a post graduate degree. You have to remember that TBPers and TRPers that are debating there are by and large the more moderate members of each sub. Your argument is that since TBPers are scientists and psychologists that they should be able to read these studies, but what about TRPers that are not these things? Your bias argument goes out the window if you would take a look at my comment history and see me defending any injustices coming from either side. Specifically, since I think seeing me defending a RPer might persuade you, look at where I constantly defend RPS when people misquote him or otherwise try to slander. I'm not sure what you mean by pseudo-literacy but we don't want to be the thought police. Just because some or even most people can read paywalled sources doesn't mean everyone can, and since we're trying to put everyone on an even playing ground, that's why we discourage sources that not everyone can access. With your assertion that there are more TBPers that should be able to access these sources wouldn't that make it seem like we're more biased towards TRP by disallowing them?

Former graduate student in cancer biology here to tell you that you clearly know absolutely nothing about how science PhDs are funded.

and are considered so productive that schools pay you to go there. No student loans, no tuition. You even get extra money to take home and pay for yourself while you work.

It is true that you don't pay tuition and you get a modest stipend. But the school is still charging tuition. And the stipend isn't generally being paid by the school unless they have their own endowment-funded fellowships.

Any graduate student in the sciences becomes well acquainted with the issue of funding. There are many sources of funding, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship being one of the primary graduate funding opportunities. Each institution does things slightly differently, but the gist is the same. Your school still collects tuition, but that tuition is paid through various means. For example, the lab you join might be grant funded and that grant funding would contain a certain amount of money to pay students' tuition and stipend. In the biomedical sciences, an NIH R01 grant is the likely funding source. Or the student might get outside funding through fellowships like the NSF-GRF. There are all kinds of fellowships and getting a fellowship makes you very attractive to labs since they don't have to pay for you.

At my institution, our first year while we were doing lab rotations was paid for by a fellowship. We had one year to find a lab to join. Now, half of the problem with finding a lab was finding one with funding. Because, as we already established, graduate school is not some magical land of free money. The school still wants it's money. And you are not some productive source of income for the school. Far from it. You cost the school money. You might perhaps be less of a resource drag if you teach undergraduate classes. My institution didn't have undergraduates so we did nothing but research. Your lab gets grants and you get fellowships or you will quickly not be a graduate student any longer.

Anyway, I just thought that I would chime in with some knowledge from an actual scientist who has gone through a PhD program in a STEM field since you clearly haven't.

It is very clear to me as an academic

I find it hard to believe that any academic (we're talking about someone with a graduate education here, right?) would not understand how grant funding and fellowships work. Who is really lying?

I was oversimplifying because most people here don't have experience in this area, but thank you for the pedantry.

It's funny how the removal of the simplification turns your statement from "STEM degrees are so productive that the schools pays you to go" into "STEM degrees are subsidized by government funding."

The point is, this student is being subsidized. He is being paid to go to school. This isn't the same as a liberal arts PhD who either has to pay tuition or has to work outside their degree (TA or teaching) to earn their stay.

You do understand that you can get fellowships for non-STEM PhDs, right?

I only mentioned the post grad because I was trying to point out that most Bpers probably wouldn't have access to these studies that are behind paywalls as well as RPers. It seems like you're agreeing with my assertion that studies that are behind paywalls are useless in purple pill.

This is the example of "unbiased"? A person who dodges the point like a ninja? You manage to take the exact opposite conclusion of the argument being made.

[–]alphabetmod-1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Uber said that TBP lies about having degrees. I don't necessarily agree with that as it cannot be proven. Regardless, if I did agree with him, then my point stands that articles and studies that are hidden behind paywalls are useless in the debate sub to either side anyway. I'm not sure how I took the opposite conclusion or what that even means here, can you clarify?

[–]no_game_player1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Uber's entire point is the importance of these articles. The point about TBP is to establish why they should, if they were actually sincere at any point, be able to engage with these and how they do not.

You take all of that, ignore it, and just go "whelp, I guess you agree we shouldn't allow these articles".

As far as I'm concerned, you all should stay there and never come back here.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It had nothing to do with supporting TRP, since it wasn't even our mod team's resident Blue Piller who banned you. Your articles were dismissed because you expected people who could not read them to take your word that they did, in fact, support your claims.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah overall it's a big waste of time. Not only that but they cherry pick the worst comments they can find instead of debating the real issues.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is a problem we have frequently, though if you'd like to open up a real topic, then the mods (and quite a few of our subscribers) would genuinely appreciate it.

Of course, I fully recognize that PPD is not popular over here, so if you don't want to participate with us, then I completely understand.

[–]Spartacus333 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's due largely to something I thought of after the fact: TBP is a parody subreddit. It's meant specifically to mock TRP. The whole point of the sub is to cherry pick TRP's worst comments. So, unfortunately, the people coming to the table to discuss TRP are coming from a sub that mocks, not discusses.

There are still people who want to discuss things there. It's just harder to find a good conversation due to the makeup of the users there.

[–]_MrMan_[S] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Haha yea I noticed that too.

Let's not pay any attention to practically every man who applied red pill knowledge to some degree of success, and instead ask for a study in National Geographic.

Not that we dont have a bunch of studies that support us, as they get posted here every so often, but you're not going to have a study for every fuckin thing we talk about because it's not exactly a popular stance.

If they want to wait around for their peer reviewed bullshit they can do that if they want, but just trying it out for themselves is the most proactive way. Of course they could turn into an abusive misogynist serial killer, so there's some risk involved.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't really understand the need for stacks of peer-reviewed studies when it comes to something like this.

If you see a baseball team that repeatedly kicks every other team's ass in every single game, do you start observing what they are doing differently to get those results? Or do you kick back and wait for studies that are never going to exist before you believe that they might know what's up?

I sure know which one I'm going with.

[–]LaserSoundMusic 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]noblepaladin 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

The "citation needed" response is dumb. Are people really that brain dead that they need some "expert" to think for them? Anybody that has done research in academia know that it is possible to publish anything you want. I can make up some rambling nonsense and get it published somewhere and use it as a source for these brain dead people.

It is okay to ask for proof in the hard sciences, because things are provable. It is not in the social sciences. And the thing is, you have to participate in the real world and take actions with incomplete information. You can't just freeze time and keep saying "citation needed" until someone writes some stupid blog (which is the typical quality of "news articles" that people love to link as citations) and sends it to you.

The people keep screaming "citation needed" typically have a set of beliefs and actions that they follow, and those beliefs and actions are just as equally unproven and un-cited (you have to interact with other people in life, and whatever model you use, whether it is Red Pill, Blue Pill, or something else, it cannot be proven with 100% certainty because it is a soft science). But they assume that is the base for truth and any deviation needs to be proven. At least, religious people admit that their model is faith-based, so everybody knows that it is not a science debate. The snarky "citation needed" response is typically used by someone who is not a logical, science-based person. He/she is just trying to force the frame that he/she is the logical one and you are not.

If you don't believe in TRP, then just don't believe it. It's like arguing politics, there is nothing to argue about.

[–]Party_Liquor 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I love getting the "source?" response. It's how I know that I have won. It is the argument loser's last line of defense.

Well, I can't refute your point using my own intelligence, knowledge, and logic so if you can't provide a peer-reviewed, published research study then your entire argument is invalid! I win!

lol

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's one thing to ask for the source in a purely scientific/statistical debate. But when examining the motivations behind innate human behavior, we can't use an MRI or straw poll to discover "the truth". And while some of those behaviors might not hold for every human on the planet, noting general and easily observable trends is very useful.

[–]noblepaladin 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The worst thing is that you have to choose your behavior when it is uncertain which behavior is right and which behavior is wrong. I mean, if I were racist, and people tell me I am racist, I can easily counter with "Black people are less intelligent than white people", and ask for a citation when people disagree. It is a soft science that cannot be proven. If you cite one thing, I can cite something else. People cannot even agree on how to measure intelligence. This is the problem with the "citation needed" mentality. I am actually accepting one truth without citation and rejecting everything else due to lack of citation and I am doing something bad while rejecting feedback from others to correct it. Unless someone lives under a rock and does not interact with anybody, they are accepting an unproven model (as all models are unprovable) as truth because their actions are based on their mental model of the world.

Since we can't actually stay under a rock, we have to accept the model that has the highest probability of being true, fully understanding that there will be a lot of exceptions. I think a lot of the things posted here are crazy talk, but generally, in my life experience, the red pill model fits reality more than the blue pill model.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

The worst thing is that you have to choose your behavior when it is uncertain which behavior is right and which behavior is wrong.

We're innately equipped with a capacity to understand morality and accept social mores. Unfortunately, some people are more manipulative than others, especially if they have something to offer (e.g., physical beauty). If there's any question as to your course of action, treat others fairly.

I mean, if I were racist, and people tell me I am racist, I can easily counter with "Black people are less intelligent than white people", and ask for a citation when people disagree. It is a soft science that cannot be proven.

"[Insert group] is less intelligent than [insert other group]."

There is enough intragroup variability and enough of a variability in defining intelligence and methods of assessing it that such a statement is useless in the sense that it would be hard to definitively prove, much less provide actionable information.

Some of our subscribers attempt to extrapolate certain RP ideas to other domains like politics, but they don't realize that TRP works so well in relationships because those dynamics are based on innate human behavior as opposed to higher level cognitive processes.

If you cite one thing, I can cite something else. People cannot even agree on how to measure intelligence. This is the problem with the "citation needed" mentality.

There's plenty of falsified or poorly constructed/interpreted research in the biological sciences as well, making it even more difficult to determine who is "correct". With that in mind, why obsess over confirming RP ideas through research in human behavior?

we have to accept the model that has the highest probability of being true

More accurately, we have to test our preferred models of human behavior by honestly assessing our own interpersonal experiences.

Use what works best for you. If a bluepiller rediscovers beta bucks and is happy in that relationship dynamic, good for them.

[–]mrpoopistan 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Two thoughts . . .

First, peer-reviewed articles should not be seen as proof of much, since the peer review process itself is coming under increasing criticism from the scientific community. This is one of those moment where I wish I did a better job of bookmarking everything I read, but basically what you're seeing is that the publish-or-perish model is producing a lot of shitty research these days. Look at the early research on fetal alcohol syndrome, which is finally being disassembled in the aftermath of science's rediscovery that the liver is in fact present in human females and that most of the women involved in the original studies were doing much worse shit than just drinking.

Second, my experience as a fairly liberal guy on this side of the argument is that the further to the political right you go, the more comfortable people become with anecdotes and allegory. Ayn Rand, for example. The Bible, too, if we're being honest. Truthiness is a serious problem that the right-wing doesn't acknowledge.

For me, this has always been one of the things I've struggled with in the whole PUA/MRA/TRP spectrum of debate. Far too much of it ends up simply being my gut feeling versus someone else's gut feeling. It takes a lot of solid peer-reviewed work to declare anything a fact, and then odds are good that anyone inclined to debate the issue is just going to dickishly dismiss the best data available anyhow simply because they don't like it.

[–]noblepaladin 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, having done academic research, I know it is ridiculously easy to get published. Except for some of the very prestigious journals, peer review doesn't mean anything. It's typically reviewed by someone who doesn't actually specialize in what you are doing, so it will effectively just get rubber stamped. I've tried to recreate tons of experiments in my current job, some of them using the exact data provided by the author, and typically you simply cannot recreate it. It's just false and it gets published anyways, or there is something in the fine print that just invalidates the conclusion (such as ignoring a subset of special cases).

Some people make a career out of churning out research papers. I've seen resumes for people who have authored 100+ papers, that is when you know it is simply bad research, because those papers come out every week, and given the length of the papers there is a lot more time spent writing than researching.

[–]mrpoopistan 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Reflecting back on my college days, some of the worst teachers were the best at getting shit published. The publishing profs were generally the ones who simply played the game to the hilt and considered the tenure game to be their full time job.

It's one of the reasons that I took a pass when professors told me I should go academic track (this is way, way before TRP). I simply couldn't fathom spending my entire life jumping through meaningless hoops for the sake of a job.

[–]noblepaladin 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The paper pumpers are generally those that have not been established yet, meaning they haven't had a significant piece of work that would cement them into the academic community. I know some professors who have 300+ papers to their resume. Academia is actually a very hard career, so they are fighting to keep their job. He thinks that if he has 300 papers, he'll beat someone with 200 papers. The good professors who have made great discoveries in the past have secured their job already, so they'll do good research that takes years to finish before publishing a single paper.

a lot of the problem comes from the postmodern discourse that infects the modern left/feminists that make up the core of bluepill.

these are the people who believe that literally everything is a social construct. there is no such thing as objectivity.

when you are arguing with someone who only focuses on how an argument makes them feel, you arent going to get very far. this is part of why arguing with feminists is a waste of time.

at this point, unless people are willing to acquiesce that much of what we talk about is self-evident through experiencing or witnessing it over and over in the "field" I am not even willing to entertain the discussion.

frankly i don't care to discuss this stuff with people unless they are already somewhat open to it

a non politically correct, truth seeking, pragmatic realist will probably never agree with a PC-police, utopia seeking, feel-good idealist.

It's a good idea in theory, but as soon as you try to go on the offensive on some TBP criticisms, they pull out the "well that doesn't matter, TBP is a parody sub, we don't take things seriously lololol"

It is fun to watch the blue pill side slowly drop the facade of 'neutrality' and devolve into snark and name calling as comment chains progress when any red pill posters hold their ground on their statements though.

[–]_MrMan_[S] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Yea you can feel their seething pent up tension whenever a red piller posts.

In the end I think both sides have a slightly wrong idea about each other. Blue Pillers have this caricature of a Red Piller as an angry neckbeard virgin or a wife beating sexist who only preys on women with low self esteem. While Red Pillers have this caricature of Blue Pillers as scrawny pathetic pussy manginas or fat feminists.

Both are exaggerations obviously (for the most part) but its easier to defeat a strawman/madeup image. The reality is Red Pill/Blue Pill just like Alpha/Beta is a spectrum, and everybody has a different way of expressing that. Red Pill just leans more towards the side I agree with.

The way I see it is successfully happy Blue Pill men who are in good relationships or get laid often have to have some degree of "alpha" in them. Their idea of what alpha means is just wrong, as the word has alot of negative fuzzy connotations to it these days. Unless you look like a male model and/or make over 100k a year then its very hard to handle your shit without a little red pill in you.

Fact is a lot of guys can do "okay" as an average blue piller. They can get a few relationships and get laid every so often if they're half decent looking and have an okay personality. So I guess they're content with that and call all game related shit stupid, until they potentially get fucked over it seems.

That's sort of the way I was. I remember the first time I watched Mystery's The Pickup Arist on VH1. I was a sophomore in college and me and my roommates thought it was the dumbest thing ever. I subscribed to the "just be yourself" camp then. The reason why is because I got laid a solid amount so I felt I didnt need it, not knowing I got laid mostly because I was good looking and popular. If I applied game I could have done much better, as I still had many beta tendencies.

So taking the red pill for some depends on whether they want to remain average at best yet "moral" or gain respect in their relationships and get laid more all while pushing the so called boundaries of what you were raised to believe.

Much of Red Pill success can be attributed to a few basic things, but its the theory that puts us in the proper mindset to do those things. The theory solidifies it. The Red Pill is essentially destroying any hint of a pedestal at it's core knowing what we know.

Hey man attitude is everything. Thats the whole "irrational self confidence" ish. Just because a woman makes more money or a guy can bench press more than you doesnt make them better. Nothing is inherently better or worse than something else if you dont believe it is. Everything is a matter of our perception. It's our greatest power to see things however we want to see them. All that matters is what works for each person.

I think the "truth about women" leads to a change in attitude though. Nobody would change their attitude if they didnt think it would work. So to a guy who supplicated their whole to women to find out they respond better to a more strong assertive man will change their thinking into becoming that strong assertive man.

I haven't even looked at that subreddit but in general I find arguing against feminists to be as useless as arguing against creationists. The second you prove that their viewpoint is essentially false and wrong, they cling to their catch phrases like "patriarchy", "social construct (as in everything is one)", "rape culture" etc. All of these being merely opinions and not theories based on the scientific method leaves little room for actual debate.

Once you're exposed to TRP you either quickly agree with it or you dont. No amount of debate is going to change your mind.

This is what it comes down to. I think that whole sub is stupid because The Red Pill is named after a binary choice from The Matrix. You have to take it, or take The Blue Pill. One exposes you to the realities of the world, the other keeps you safe and comfortable in your world of lies. The Purple Pill implies there is some third option where you can see with the realities of the world while staying comfortable, but mere exposure to these realities should represent having taken The Red Pill.

[–]Terry_Bruce_Dick 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think I agree with that, with one caveat - I think that people exposed to red pill without a certain amount or type of experience in their life will dismiss TRP, but may be open to it later in life. It's not really a persuasion so to speak, except that maybe life persuades you.

[–]RedSunBlue 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In my eyes, that whole sub lost it's credibility as a place for rational debate and mutual understanding when the bluepill faction failed to engage /u/redpillschool on a level beyond mockery and vitriol. Every time he shows up someone either a) tries to tell him what he thinks or b) misrepresents his position (especially vis-a-vis spousal rape and women's suffrage).

We constantly say that TRP sub is not a movement, but a collection of individuals trying to figure out the current state of things by sharing any and all information that may be useful. What is useful to one may not be useful to another, and any one user's use of said information (e.g., spin plates, maintain a monogamous relationship) is not representative of the whole. However, if there was one user who could feasibly represent the sub as a whole it would be the head mod/guy with the most writing in the sidebar. That he was there and willing to debate showed promise, but TBP's reaction was less than bush league, disappointing on the whole, and indicative of the fact that they are not debating or even trying to understand our positions.

[–]Modredpillschool 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It really was a shame. Some of the more vocal blue pill members over there are so convinced that their understanding is the only perspective, that they will completely disregard a red piller saying "but that's seriously not what I think..."

Their response? "Yes it is! Because you're wrong, and I have to disagree with you, so this must be how you think..."

Ironically, it's just another example of how a group that is supposedly anti-hate embodies the very sort of hate they're purporting to fight. Nobody trivializes rape more than a feminist by making it into a meaningless joke.

One requirement of an effective debate is that each party understands the other's position. That definitely isn't the case on PPD. The blue pill side seems for the most part to have a very superficial understanding of TRP.

This can be one of the most frustrating aspects, but I've been pleasantly surprised at times when a non-RP subscriber will actually agree with an argument I've made. It's encouraging to say the least, and I think one positive breakthrough is worth wading through all the negative backlash. Sometimes change (or even just plain acceptance) has to happen one person at a time.

Engagement is a slow process, but considering how far anything in this sub is from being mainstream, all engagement is good.

Also, to be honest, a little bit of hotly contested debate could shave off some of the stray sharp edges around here, and that would not be an awful thing. It doesn't hurt to have an opponent to help you hone your argument.

Basically PurplePillDebate seems like a waste of time in my eyes

IT is.

You don't argue with bitches. Bitches love to stir up drama but they can't argue worth their shit. There's a reason why women only make a small portion in fields like philosophy and math

You're assuming that all Blue Pillers are female. There are plenty of male white knights taking the blue pill.

In theory it's good. I like to keep my views in check, especially when they're as far from the beaten path as TRP.

That being said I also disagree with a good deal of stuff I see on this board, especially recently. Many men come to find TRP after heartbreak/observing women doing not-so-ethical acts, and end up letting the butthurt cloud their judgement. Plus there's an increasing amount of posturing on the board - keyboard jockeys, essentially. So I wish there was a viable alternative. I guess PPD is not it.

PSA to yall: PurplePill does not want sources. They are just more TBP circle jerk.

Last week I posted two peer reviewed sources on hypergamy from a #1 ranked sociology journal (Archives of Sexual Behavior) from like 2010 and 2012.

I was then banned and the mods stated to me, and in milder terms in a stickied post that peer-reviewed scientific journal articles are not acceptable.

Ironically, they also make fun of TRPers who do things like quote free sources from wikipedia, psychology today, or older publications.

There is no winning here. It's just more SRS space.

I have better things to do than waste my time on that sub convincing a bunch of anonymous bluepillers to find their balls again by screaming louder than the radical feminists who are backed by admins and mods.

When I get my empire going, I'll need obedient workers to maintain it. Best if they are happy with it.

There needs a nawalt kind of sub to encounter the situations where red pill will only serve short term while blue pill methods work long term.

Things like ltr dating single moms, being ok with female previous partners (especially if you had multiple yourself) both earning income. Being a better man for your wife and the wife being a better woman for the husband.

Lots of beta situations with alpha navigation... Alpha men who became beta because they let their ego blind them to their fuck ups. Some people do need a head check when their shit gets too far out of line. (Cheating, pump and dumps, unrealistic expectations in a woman)

It's sad that the blue pill isn't an effective counter but just some off shoot of shitredditsays who's existence is only to troll and circle jerk trp

Blue pill methods fail long term [in many cases -- no need to point out exceptions to the generalization]. In spite of what women think they want and say they want, and what BP men think that women want, one thing that is shown, time and time again, that women absolutely do NOT want, is to have sex with a pussy man who asks her permission for everything, defers to whatever she wants, follows her lead in most cases, consults her on every decision however minor, never initiates anything physical for fear of offending her, backs down and apologizes in every argument, and constantly compliments, validates, buys her things, and treats her when they're out because she's just so gosh darn important and special and if he lets this one get away, it'll take him forever to find another girlfriend.

That's the kind of guy who gets cheated on and/or dumped and replaced.

Conversely, "easy mode" Red Pill, which pretty much means being an aloof asshole to demonstrate your confidence and alpha-ness is also unsuited for a long term relationship (but unlike most blue pillers, is actually successful at sparking initial interest and getting laid). Long term relationships and marriage require a mixture of attraction and comfort-building traits. You literally have to ping-pong the woman between RP confidence to the point where she's about to end things to save herself the sting of losing you to another woman, and BP validation where she feels assured not only that you care, but also that you're not perfect and attractive to other women (because women go by how they feel this very minute without considering the big picture, so if you're acting Blue Pill this minute, she won't worry about you being attractive to other women until the next time she sees you acting Red Pill).
