So I was watching Dateline tonight and the episode was about a New Jersey woman who had been bamboozled by a guy into believing that he was a British intelligence agent. She had gone through "background checks", received mysterious text messages in the middle of the night, been tailed by mystery cars, etc. Of course, she got pregnant and they were to be married.

Then she figures out he's a bigamist, with multiple wives and children in various countries, and NOT a secret agent man. So a real scumbag.

When the authorities swoop in they charge him with fraud, theft and "rape by deception". The narrator says this is a fairly new charge in the United States. They then cut to the woman, saying "just because he didn't force me, doesn't mean it wasn't rape". She then precedes to hamster away about "not knowing who he really was".

This is some scary stuff. Imagine this running wild on college campuses, with sorority girls droning on about the BMOC fooling her into all that sex.

UPDATE: Some of the commenters are saying it will be interesting to see how this turns out. During the show, they announced he copped a plea and that the jury wouldn't convict him on the rape charge. They then cut to her, aghast, complaining the jury decided she couldn't show how he had "harmed" her during the sex. She was befuddled.
