I wrote a post on the subject of marriage after my girlfriend expressed that she wanted to get married in a couple of years.

This is an update:

I had another conversation with her about marriage since writing the post. I had not prepared what I would say if it came up, so I slipped into explaining everything I wrote in the post. She cried a lot that night and said that maybe it would be best for us to break up. For a few days things were awkward.

But the aftermath has surprised me: she took it all in, thought about it, and the logic got through. She went as far as to say "I can't argue with anything you said". Her only counterpoint was simply that it felt like I was being cold and calculating, which is totally fair. I was thinking about marriage purely logically as opposed to the way we are raised to think about it: emotionally.

Most people are only really familiar with the image of marriage as something holy, sacred, special, emotional, binding, forever, etc. People (especially women) are so unbelievably steeped in this image that they have no clue how marriage works, what the laws are, and what the outcome statistics are.

If or when this issue comes up in your relationships with women, you can explain this stuff and have it not blow up in your face. However, that said, we're talking about a serious dose of the red pill here. Relationship status is female heroin, and marriage is the motherload. I had to be very emotionally available for this to go smoothly, almost to the point of discomfort.

Edit: a few text changes.
