Chivalry has nothing to do with opening doors for women or putting them first. In fact, it has nothing to do with women at all. It was a moral code among men, period. You'll notice that women don't have a female version of chivalry, because women have no honor or morals (generally speaking). Unfortunately, honor among men is also at an all-time low thanks to the betas letting women more-or-less run western civilization this last 30 or so years.

Women, in solipsism, decided that chivalry should mean putting the gender on a pedestal. Most women cannot comprehend a code of honor that has nothing to do with them, because most women don't see outside of their ownself as the center of the universe.

Of course "Chivalry" (in the pop-culture defiinition that men should be overtly gracious to women) is dead, the very meaning of it is a completely twisted and thought-up scheme by ignorant women to begin with. Real Chivalry is still alive (though less common), however it still doesn't apply to women, so to women it's ALWAYS been dead.

When I was BP, I really didn't expect ass just for being nice I just thought being nice was the way to get your foot in the door and keep favor; I never saw it as entitlement to pussy, I thought I was building rapport.

I should have known better at a younger age but when most of the people talking are out to lie to you about the reality you live in it's hard not to agree with them without concrete proof that they are wrong.

I have observed on several occasions some women giving men shit for opening the door for them which I thought was absolutely uncalled for. Happened to me once back in University. It was the typical I am woman don't treat me like that. Of course this treatment will give pause to men to bother doing it again.

This is where some aspects of feminism has failed. Rather than encourage women to open the door for men and up their game to bring equality in such things, and show appreciation for good manners, some decided that bringing men down to their level was more appropriate and perhaps satisfying. And I believe unfortunate because I will say most women aren't like that, they will be polite maybe throw a smile in thanks or say so, but a small % yell louder than the majority and who wants to deal with the chance you run into one of those?

If I was dating in this day and age there is no way I would take a woman to a restaurant and foot the bill. I would even be hard pressed to go to a bar for a drink lol. It would be minimum investment, maybe a coffee and I would buy my own, and she can get her own.

If you adhere to old-school etiquette for your own reasons (say, because you were brought up with it) and are fully aware of the reality that almost nobody appreciates it anymore, then it's fine in my book. The problem comes from being chivalrious with the expectation that women will reward you for it, which of course is ridiculous but it's what cultural tropes still lead men to believe.
