My wife's birthday is in January, so every year it's a like a shit test triathlon: Christmas, Birthday and Valentine's Day.

This year, we had a major blowup around her birthday. I picked the wrong restaurant. Of course, I'm the sole breadwinner, make a great living, good with the kids.

So, this was kind of the last straw for me, and I went and swallowed the red pill.

I'm overweight, so my mission is STFU and Lift. Every week I'm trying to do something "for myself". I have a therapist, I joined a gym, I had some dental work I'd been postponing done. I'm thinking of getting lasik, and I'm taking a trip to see my brother. It's been awesome. Went from not even knowing what I want to feeling the juices start to flow.

I hadn't started thinking about V Day, but yesterday she said, "So, this is difficult for me, but I'd like to show you what I want for Valentine's Day". An expensive ring.

In the past, I probably would have gotten angry, but now I kind of think it's funny in a way. To use her words, this is the universe testing me.

What's the best way to play this? Cuz in my mind, if this marriage lasts, I'm fucking done with offering her increasingly expensive gifts to avoid her getting mad....exactly what I've seen her dad do!
