I am so sorry. People shouldn't die on Christmas. A relative of one of my close friends also died this week and it's been an incredible trauma for everybody.

This reminds me, let me hijack the conversation to encourage everybody to listen to Steve Jobs' commencement speech. 15 minutes of the most important life lesson. It encouraged me to lose weight, finish my studies, get a job, and start learning how to stop being an AFC.

I suppose I should give a little more context. I talked about this woman before in my FRs, I called her "B." She was best friends with The Woman and knew her long before I did. Together we signed the papers to throw her in the psych ward, and ever since then, The Woman has ostracized us and refused to ever speak to B again. B and I have commiserated over my unrequited love, and in return, I listened to B when she broke up with her boyfriend. She was young (28) and attractive, and had just graduated from college, she was trying to figure out what to do with her life, and I encouraged her to go into a writing program. She wanted to be a writer, so I'd always give her little bits of inspiration, I'd try to inspire her by sending her the best pieces of writing I knew, from Murakami Haruki to Hunter Thompson.

But it was obvious that B had serious health problems, life-threatening problems. She spent a lot of time in the hospital, The Woman even told me about how once she'd called an ambulance when B had a seizure. B had epilepsy and diabetes, and the only thing preventing her from moving on to her Masters degree program in writing was that her doctors were trying to find equivalent medical care in the new city where she would live.

As I got to know B, I began to realize we were united by a common sorrow over The Woman, and we became a lot closer. But I constantly pushed her over one thing she held back from me. B told me about a conversation she had with The Woman just after I gave her the big "I love you" speech and she lied that she had a boyfriend and gave me the LJBF speech. B told me she obviously had feelings for me but said she felt unworthy and unlovable, why would anyone love her, she was damaged goods. And yes, The Woman was damaged goods, she had her share of mental problems, but that didn't stop me from loving her. B told me more about that conversation, and that The Woman told her something that maybe someday I'd hear directly, but she'd have to tell me that in person, it was not her place to betray her friend's confidence, but I should have hope that maybe one day I would hear it. I pressed her and pressured her to reveal what she said, perhaps she held the key to The Woman's heart, something that if I knew, I could take advantage of it and turn her feelings around. But B would not tell me. She was loyal to her best friend, to the end, even though The Woman now considered B her worst enemy, someone who destroyed her life. Now B took that secret to the grave, and I will probably never hear it from The Woman. I cannot help but think that B could have told me, there was a moment that The Woman did love me, and that might have made all my sorrows worth it, might have given me hope that she might love me again. But now I will never know.

But the saddest thing of all is that these two best friends never spoke again, and now can never speak again. They used to talk to each other every day, telling each other the most intimate details of their lives, and then suddenly The Woman had a mental breakdown and in her paranoia, she thought B was trying to destroy her rather than help her. We figured that The Woman would hate us for what we did, throwing her in the psych ward, and it would take a while, and some serious treatment, but eventually she would come around to realize what we had done for her: we saved her life. But month after month passed, and The Woman showed no signs of recovery, no signs of changing her attitudes towards us. B always tried to encourage me, she said it would take a long time for someone to recover after getting that deep into drugs, and that I should not give up hope, and that she prayed every day that her best friend would recover.

So ultimately that is what makes me so sad. That stupid bullheaded woman, so obsessed with her drugs and insanity that she would refuse to talk to her best friend, and now her friend is dead and they'll never be able to make up. And if someday she is restored to sanity, she will spend the rest of her life regretting that she missed her chance to make up with her best friend. There were times when I visited B in the hospital when she was extremely ill, I wanted to call The Woman and tell her that maybe she should get off her high horse and come down to visit B, it might be her last chance to ever speak to her. But I knew she wouldn't do it, so I didn't bother.

The last time I spoke to B, she told me about how she just rented a new apartment and she was planning a party. She had a new job taking care of children at a preschool, she seemed pretty happy with what she was doing. I have no idea how she died, I haven't heard from her family yet. I suspect she moved into her new apartment and had a seizure when there was nobody around to help her, and she died alone. When I heard the news, it was 9 days after she died, B's funeral was two days earlier. My only thought was to send a text to The Woman, "B died." I haven't seen her in months, and that may be the last thing I ever tell her. She certainly didn't respond. Maybe she knew already. I can only hope that B's death might shock her into some realizations about how foolish she is acting. There have been so many times when I told The Woman that she should take a lot closer look at who her true friends are, the ones who stick with her even when she won't speak to them. And now she has one less true friend in this world, and now I have one less true friend.

I am very sorry for your loss OP.

It reminds me of a David Wygant talk I heard. I don't remember which one, but he said something to the effect of people who read the material presented in the seduction community do so because they're sick of living on the sidelines. In the piece, Wygant seemed to be literally begging people to go out and live their life instead of acting like they have all the time in the world. The reality is, we do not know how much time we have left. Patrick Swayze found out out of the blue that he'd have roughly 6 months.

We would all do well to take this opportunity to ask ourselves if we would view our lives as a full ones if we were to get that same call?

I finally heard back from her family. She moved into her new apartment and was alone when she had a series of prolonged seizures (as I suspected). They don't know how long she was seizing, at least 6 hours, maybe a full day or more. Her family called the police to check on her, and discovering her condition, she was rushed to the ER. Her family came and B struggled on life support for a week, but the brain scans and MRIs showed she was so severely brain damaged that she would live in a permanently vegetative state, so they pulled the plug. Such a sad end for a nice girl, but I think at least the family was prepared somewhat since B had such severe health problems and could have died at any time. Perhaps we should celebrate that she lived so long, and so well, with such horrible disabilities.
